Nerd Initiative - Richard Coryell May 7, 2025

This first issue really does an awesome job of introducing us to the world and our main characters. Benito Cereno does an awesome job of melding the genres of Sci-Fi, Adventure, and Comedy. The concept of a Sci-Fi buddy cop adventure is unique in the market and is a breath of fresh air. The action and humor also hit the spot and make for an amazing perfect blend. Read Full Review

The Comicbook Dispatch - dragoncache May 7, 2025

The only person Blood Bledsoe trusts is Thunder. The bounty hunter refuses to trade her AI gun for a newer model. But then, Thunder may be the only thing preventing Blood from spending the rest of her life in a maximum-security prison cell. That would be a shame, as the IPPF needs her assistance in protecting the streets of Metro 1 in Blood And Thunder #1. Read Full Review

With Benito Cereno's strong writing defining the voice and E.J. Su's artwork popping off the panels, Blood & Thunder #1 is an excellent debut issue. The world building is top notch with a badass bounty hunter in Akeldama "Blood Bledsoe as the series lead. This is one sci-fi story you will not want to miss out on experiencing for yourself. You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff May 10, 2025

Kirkman mentions that the title came from an interview hed read with Jack Kirby. Nice to see that hes still getting credit for things this long after hes passed away. The disagreement between the officer and her gun calls to mind an argument between a protagonist and his car at the beginning of a Philip K. Dick novel. (The protagonist was trying to convince the AI in the car that he WAS, in fact, sober enough to drive. Clever stuff.) Kirkmans premise lacks the wit of Dicks throwaway idea, but theres a LOT in the opening issue that feels derivative. The opening of the series may lack some level of originality, but Cereno makes Blood an appealing enough character to overcome the series general lack of originality. Read Full Review

    ComicBook.com - Matthew Aguilar May 7, 2025

It's not easy for a new series to truly showcase who it is and who it wants to be in just one issue, but Blood & Thunder did that exceptionally well, and it's created an adventure full of action, charm, and mystery that already has its hooks in. If you give it a try, I think it just might hook you, too. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - Theron Couch May 7, 2025

Blood & Thunder #1 is a smooth blend of science fiction and light comedy. This owes largely to the issues opening pages and the inclusion of Bloods gun, Thunder. Fans of space science fiction will find the issue immediately appealing. But Blood & Thunder #1s writing and high quality makes it an engaging read overall and a first issue absolutely worth checking out. Read Full Review

Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez May 9, 2025

BLOOD & THUNDER #1 is a perfectly serviceable setup to introduce readers to Metro-1's best bounty hunter and her talking rifle. Benito Cereno's script, based on a Robert Kirkman concept, miraculously fleshes out an entire world in a single issue, and the art team's visuals are the highlight of the issue. That said, world-building is no substitute for a strong hook, so this issue fails to grab you. Read Full Review
