    AIPT - David Brooke

    Apr 21, 2026

Corpse Knight #1 is a strong debut that leans into mood, atmosphere, and visual storytelling to set the stage for something bigger. Michael Chaves brings a cinematic sensibility that gives each moment room to breathe, building tension through character and setting before unleashing full horror. Matthew Roberts and Rico Renzi elevate the material with striking imagery that shifts from grounded and somber to grotesque and supernatural. The story keeps some of its cards close, but the emotional core and eerie tone make it an engaging start with plenty of promise. Read Full Review

    Fanlight Zone - Richard Coryell

    Apr 22, 2026

Corpse Knight #1 introduces this brand-new series a big way and hooks the reader throughout the pages of the first issue. The closeness you feel with Foy and her father makes what happens to them that much more impactful. But it also makes the promise of revenge that much sweeter as well. The art team does an incredible job of bringing this world to life and pulling the reader directly into this world. The fact that they didn’t go completely over the top in the first issue is great and builds intrigue for what’s to come. This will be a series that you don’t want to miss if you like supernatural action stories or just unique stories in general. Read Full Review

Capes & Tights - Justin Soderberg

    Apr 23, 2026

Corpse Knight #1 surprised me in the best possible way. It’s a grim, emotional, and visually striking premiere that blends a ton of heart and horror, doing so with confidence. Michael Chaves proves he understands what it takes to craft a great comic, even if this is his first go-around. He lets the story breathe while Matthew Roberts and Rico Renzi’s artwork heightens each page with haunting and unforgettable imagery. Corpse Knight balances brutal horror with real emotional weight, making it a must-read story. Read Full Review

    Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez

Corpse Knight #1 kicks off a new tale about a girl who goes on a supernatural quest after her family is savaged by villains. Michael Chaves’ tight script is brisk and packed with emotional depth. Plus the art team’s output is solid. If you’re in the mood for a supernatural fantasy tale with a dash of horror, you can’t go wrong with this issue. Read Full Review

    COMICON - Tom Smithyman

This first issue will feel somewhat familiar with girl losing dad and dad coming back to help her from beyond the grave. But this limited series has some interesting themes starting up here and has the potential to surprise us before it’s over. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

    Apr 22, 2026

There's somebody sort of shadow that seems to be crawling around the edges of the story. Very much a historical horror feel to the series, but the most supernatural elements of this have yet to completely emerge as of the end of the first issue. It's clearly there, though. And so having had an opportunity to really ground the series in a very realistic, first issue, it'll be interesting to see where it moves as the series progresses. Give them the nature of what happened over the course of the first issue it's entirely possible that things could get very fantastic very quickly. Read Full Review

Corpse Knight #1 is a strong first issue that presents its hooks with masterful pacing and presentation. Although it may not have impressed me with a sense of depth or individuality, by the final page I found myself excited by the potential of its future installments. Read Full Review

    The Comics Panelist

    Apr 27, 2026

Picked this up mostly out of curiosity after learning it’s written by Michael Chaves (The Nun II director)… and it ended up surprising me.

Set in a dark, war-torn medieval world, the story follows a young girl whose father returns from the dead, but this isn’t just a horror setup. What really stands out is the emotional core. The father/daughter dynamic carries the issue, and there are moments that genuinely land. You feel the sadness, the tension, even the anger.

The art is a big highlight too. gritty, atmospheric, and sometimes uncomfortable in a way that fits the tone perfectly. It really pulls you into the world.

The pacing feels very cinematic, taking its time to let moments breathe, which worked well for me. more
