Dust to Dust #1 is an excellent example of how to set the tone for a piece of writing and establish the feel of a world. It just would've been nice if the story that's going to take place in it showed up a bit more than it did here. Read Full Review
Dust to Dust #1 is a hell of a debut and a prime example of why I wait until all of the comics are released in the year to decide what stands out. It's a fantastic start and one of the best debuts of the year delivering a start that's hauntingly sad and beautiful. Read Full Review
Jones art is spectacular. I love the visual style so much and how perfectly it captures the time and atmosphere of this story. Read Full Review
There's an inescapable feeling of the first issue that feels like it might be drawing in some sort of a fantastic direction with vague references to fantasy occasionally peering out of the edges of the script here and there. Though the visuals are compelling, there isnt quite enough in the heart of it all to deliver much of any deep embrace of the comic book art form as witness in the movements and motions of the first issue. Itll be interesting to see where it all moves to as thins progress, but at the outset it feels like theres a major plot twist coming that isnt quite there. Read Full Review
I am amazed this comic exists. For those who think comics are nothing but stories involving heroes in tights, I give you Dust to Dust #1 from JG Jones, Phil Bram, and Jackie Marzan. Read Full Review
Just read Dust to Dust issue one from Image Comics and I enjoyed the heck out of it. It felt very cinematic in presentation and storytelling. This first issue is mostly setup slowly introducing you to the characters - primarily the Sherif, everything revolves around him as he try’s to keep a hand on the small dust bowl town of Cimarron County, Oklahoma. The story is set in 1935 at the height of the Great Depression and it weighs heavy over the motivations of almost every character. The seeds of a mystery are planted in this issue in the form of some bones found on an abandoned farm - beyond that tiny subplot the book is mostly a character study. It’s well written and paired with illustrations that convey an atmospheric feeling. You realmore
It's a beautiful book. The story is sound, it just isn't very exciting. It will need to give us more in the next issue.
Boring.
