In this twisted tale set on New Year's Eve, 1999, Y2K anxieties boil out of control as an even darker nightmare befalls an expectant mother. THRESHOLD, a new chapter in the acclaimed horror anthology THE SILVER COIN, from JOHNNIE CHRISTMAS, JAMES TYNION IV, STEPHANIE PHILLIPS, PORNSAK PICHETSHOTE, and MICHAEL WALSH, is out this month.
Again, I haven't heard of Christmas before this read, but "Threshold in all it's inspiration from "Rosemary's Baby (see the one featuring Zoe Saldana), is a memorable experience. A threshold indeed that can only be a gateway into forms of art and stories from Christmas that can only meet or exceed the bar of this comic book contraceptive not seen since the days that Death taught John Constantine how to put a condom on by using a damn banana. The Silver Coin #13 continues the trend of excellent horror stories, recovering from a slight unsteady arc to pack a punch with this current line-up of writers. The Silver Coin #13 is so scary it may be too much for some, making it a must-read experience for horror aficionados. If the themes of motherhood and miscarriage are too much, I implore you to skip this, but for those willing to push themselves in seeing how far visuals can raise your pulse, I recommend you check it out. Walsh delivers some dark and disturbing imagery to match the darkness of the story. The visuals perfectly complement the plot and characters and are immersive in their details. Read Full Review
This usually reliable series takes a misstep with this issue, which has turned up the gore factor to 11. The story doesn't offer any redemption, so it's largely an exercise in getting grossed out. Read Full Review
Definitely weaker compared to the last few. Still found some enjoyment in it.
