SERIES FINALE!
An era comes to a close with the double-sized final issue of Sara Pezzini's twenty-year run. Several previous Witchblade artists return to the title to send her off in style. The story resolves Sara's return to New York and her relationship with Gleason and her attempt to find a suitable bearer to give the Artifact to.
Overall, I will miss Sara Pezzini and, by defacto, Michael Turner. His work, and his characters will long be remembered in this industry. And in our collections. Read Full Review
It looks like this is the final chapter in Sara Pezzinis life that will be covered in comics for now and its an interesting end to a memorable and different series that even spawned an anime at one point (which this reviewer has personally never watched). Hopefully it wont be the last time well see the character (if Witchblade follows the trend of modern comics well inevitably see a relaunch at some point), because at this issue isnt entirely perfect. There are a few threads left unanswered from the wider Witchblade verse, but for the large part this series bows out on a high note that should please fans of the series. Read Full Review
Witchblade #185 is not a high action issue that forces our heroine to confront one final big baddie, instead we have a somber conclusion that shoots to lay the groundwork for a future for and beyond Sara Pezzini as our icon retires to find a life. It's at times sad to read but those involvedshow how much they care for aindiebook that's stuck around this long by doingwhat they do best. So much so that the end product feels right to recommendwhether you've been following or not. Now's a great time to grab this and celebrate the end of an era. Read Full Review
If you loved that open-ending, then you should definitely pick up SWITCH. Originally a webcomic byStjepan Sejic, SWITCH takes classic lore from the WITCHBLADE universe but puts the gauntlet in the hands of a teenage girl. SWITCH is also published by Top Cow. Read Full Review
Witchblade #185 unfortunately isn't the strongest finale, but what a run overall. Sara Pezzini is one of modern comics' biggest success stories, ushering in a wave of fans that helped put Top Cow on the map. Her story as the Witchblade might have ended here, but it's just a matter of time before we check in with her again, hopefully. Maybe that time around, she'll have everything she wanted, much like how she gave her devoted fans everything they wanted. Read Full Review
Back to the main part of the book fans of the character will no doubt enjoy the book for what it is, a chance to say good-bye to a character that seems to have had her day and served her purpose. Read Full Review
I also liked where Sejic's story was going. It managed to keep a lot of what's good about the Witchblade mythos while providing a new and distinctive voice observing it. It's almost enough to keep me from feeling bitter about the Sara Pezzini series ending at such an inopportune time. Read Full Review
In conclusion, Witchblade #185 "officially" finishes the twenty-year run of Sara Pezzini as the reluctant wielder of the titular independent supernatural-noir, female-driven superpower-series. It can be served paradoxically as a starting point for new readers around for it retells what transpired for the past twenty years though the storytelling and illustrations departments barely make out on the levelness of great overall executions, plus some of the former artists and scribes are reasonably absent that might can flavor or add dynamism on Sara's last days as the supernatural wielder. What will become of the Witchblade and its next Bearer if there is one? We will just have to wait and see. Read Full Review
Decent end, not flashy but it's gratifying for Sara to finally get her life back.
