While Carter Burke makes friends with yet another test subject, and the key to his humanitarian plan escapes his control, Aliens: What If #3 builds off the set pieces of the popular franchise movie to create an exciting, humorous, and touching story. Read Full Review
Things get a bit bigger in this installment as the characters stories expand just being things that Burke is trying to use and that helps a lot. There's a wonkiness to Cygnus that still sticks but is understandable considering what he is but I'm glad that Brie gets some better time here and Cygnus' sense of deadpan humor is the best in rattling off percentages. I do admire Burke's attempt at all of this and the long game that he's playing, but everything that's happening is just how so much of his life hs worked that even he shouldn't be surprised. Strangely, you end up wanting the best for him because the potential is there to help so many. Read Full Review
The strange humor that results from Burkes behavior in What If? Aliens #3 sets the story apart from most of the franchise which is often deadly serious. Its a fun issue, but hopefully not a big lurch in this direction going forward. Read Full Review
While most Alien comic books inject expected horror and intergalactic carnage into their narratives, this book marks an instance in which we almost wish we got more dialogue and character dynamics than anything else, given how hilariously wormy the story has been in the preceding two issues. Luckily, none of the action or narrative tension is poorly executed, it's just a testament to how fun it has been to see Burke having to survive in a world where karma came back to bite him. Burke considers the offer and when the facehugger jumps at Yutani's face, he is pushed aside and escapes into the ventilation pipes leading to the mines.
In the mines there is Brie, Burke's daughter, who is alerted to the situation and reluctantly helps them catch the face more
The writing is far from perfect but I've never had this much fun with an Alien comic before.
This story continues its upswing, although this issue really stretches things out in a way that's lampshaded but still sorta grating.
