This is the start of the sequel to the incredible Annihilation from last year. It's got everything that made the last one great and looks to be following in its predecessor's footsteps. Read Full Review

As with the previous incarnation, Annihilation: Conquest was preceded by four mini-series, but you don't have to worry about getting lost if you decided to buy Halo 3 with the $60 needed to fully prep for the main series. In a change of pace, Abnett and Lanning decide to forego the customary recap page and put you right into the heat of the action. Multiple character hark on the point that no one has the full picture of what's going on/being planned, and the writers want the reader in the same position. You never get the full scope of what's happening, but continually pick of bits and pieces on the way. The resistance gains a couple allies, while the true face behind the Phalanx finally shows itself, but there's still not enough yet to connect all the dots. In the end, I'm more intrigued by the series than I was going into it, which is really the main purpose of a first issue, isn't it? Read Full Review

Comics Bulletin - Luke Handley / Paul Brian McCoy Nov 6, 2007

Paul: As much as Id like to disagree and create some flashy drama here, I have to agree with you again. I was going to score this issue 3.5 Bullets, but in looking over the art teams work again, I have to bump it up to 4. Conquest has taken a pretty steady first step after the wobbly lead-ins, and, especially with the surprise appearances in this first issue, I am very excited to see whats coming next. I just hope it can move beyond the flash and spectacle of lots of people dying and actually live up to the potentials of the characters involved. Read Full Review
