Plenty is going on here, and it's all illustrated in gorgeous detail. This is a rewarding book, and it gets more rewarding the slower and more carefully you read it. I worry that some of its complexity could be due to confusing writing, though. But I wouldn't call the prose bad by any means; there are some absolutely beautiful lines.
