Captain Marvel #125 may not shake things up too much for Carol and Alpha Flight, but it is a good new beginning for the book. It relies a lot on whats been established, but its still moving in a new and compelling direction to keep both old and new readers engaged. This one gets a recommendation. Definitely give it a read. This issue is an odd one for me that attempts to have one foot in continuity and another in new reader friendly and doesn't quite pull it off. There's also giant holes in the plot that are noticeable and little irritating. The comic is fun though and I can't help but think if the comic focused on the great cast interaction with a Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon flair of adventure it'd be a series that'd soar. Read Full Review
This is a disappointment, and Captain Marvel deserves better. Read Full Review
This may not be the fresh start some of us were looking for, but it's not a lost cause. The art is sharp and almost warrants a read completely on its own. The main cast isn't poorly written, it's just not an interesting story they're currently in. Hopefully the Alpha Cadets get left behind and Alpha Flight takes their services back into space sooner than later. Read Full Review
I love Captain Marvel, I want to get behind this book because I feel Carol Danvers should be up there with the likes of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, ect. But Stohl needs to pick up her game and stop worrying about getting a few laughs in her book and start treating Captain Marvel as she deserves. Because in my eyes, Captain Marvel isn't the Wonder Woman of Marvel or even the Superman of Marvel. Carol Danvers should be blowing them out of the water in terms of importance. Read Full Review
Dr. Eve and shapeshifter Mim return to drag Carol into some cross-dimensional shenanigans. That's a wonderfully promising story; unfortunately, it occupies at most a third of this book. The rest is filled up with painfully flawed attempts at humor and characterization. Michele Bandini's art is as ever a bright spot. We don't need to touch the visuals or the main plot; they just deserve a script that displays a better (i.e. basically functional) sense of what is and isn't interesting to the reader.
I would love to see Margaret Stohl explain why she thinks "Brand wants to go to a spa" is inherently hilarious. I think exploring just how divorced from reality she is on that point could produce a rich vein of Ricky Gervais-type cringe more
There is nothing to add except that it is boring. Completely boring.
