VALENTINE's DAY!
Love is in the air as Deadpool takes his new romance, Valentine, out on the town! Unfortunately, bullets, blades and explosive devices are also in the air since both of them have enemies who want them DEAD.
Rated T+
When he's known for giving maximum effort, Deadpool extends this same philosophy to his love life, which means maximum action, maximum romance, and maximum violence. Wong, Pina, Milla, and Sabino captured a wonderful story that leaves us to wonder what will happen next with the lovebirds. Read Full Review
Deadpool #6 takes Deadpool and Valentine out on date night while Princess and Lady Deathstrike keep the Atelier assassins out of the way. The slapstick humor largely works, and the action is fun. On every level, this issue is back up to the quality from issue #1. Read Full Review
Deadpool #6 takes the book firmly back into the world of slapstick comedy. Read Full Review
Most of the time, "deep" is the good thing I'm looking for in a comic and "shallow" is the bad alternative.
But this issue is so aggressively, shamelessly, and entertainingly shallow that it works.
It's pure sitcom nonsense--and because it *is* pure about its cheesiness, it becomes a thing of beauty.
It helps that the art shift is a real best-case scenario. Javier Pina's style is distinctive, but the quality level doesn't drop at all and the visual tone remains the same. Best of all, there's no change in the character models--a real risk when you hand a new character like Valentine off to another artist.
This was a fun date issue for Wade and Valentine. After fully showing up in the last issue, Princess is already an entertaining character. Truthfully, it doesn't take much for me to like an animal character. While I've been liking Coccolo's art for the past five issues, Pina's art is pretty good here too. This was just an enjoyable read, and I'm interested to see where things go with Wade and Valentine, as well as the Atelier.
