Doom Academy #1 is a fun comic. It doesn't quite have the serious nature of other “One World Under Doom” tie-ins but is squarely rooted in those events. It keeps the basic concepts from previous series going, a school that might give the X-Men a run for the money when it comes to danger for the students. Read Full Review
Doom Academy announces itself as a non-essential tie-in with Doom Academy #1, an issue that is also an uneven start to the series. While its ultimately possible that the series will play a larger role in One World Under Doom, there is little here for readers who arent already invested in Strange Academy stories and characters or readers who are looking specifically to get involved in them. Doom Academy #1 requires more homework than a first issue should. Get past the steep learning curve, however, and there's likeable characters and spirited artwork. Doom Academy #1 is a fluffy time-waster that's a perfect fit for readers looking for the Marvel equivalent of a Harry Potter comic. Mackenzie Cadenhead's dialog-heavy script makes good use of introductions and relationships to build out a pleasant cast of characters, and Pasqual Ferry's bright, whimsical art is a perfect fit for the story material. That said, readers who pick up this issue because it's a tie-in to One World Under Doom will be disappointed by its lack of connection and importance to the main event. Read Full Review
