The Future is Doomed! The world is Doom's…but does that include the world that is yet to be? A coalition from the future - including OLD MAN LOGAN, RACHEL SUMMERS PHOENIX, BISHOP, COSMIC GHOST RIDER, THE MAESTRO and DEATHLOK say otherwise. But will the arrival of Doom 2099 change the odds for the new Sorcerer Supreme? Is he there to back his past self…or destroy him forever?
Overall, Doomed 2099 #1 is a fun space romp with a fun and familiar cast. Sharp writing, stunning art; whether youre a longtime fan of the good doctor or looking for a quick introduction, this is your book! Read Full Review
Doom 2099 #1 isn't trying to reinvent superhero comics. It's a fast, fun, and flashy tie-in that thrives on high-octane action and a killer cliffhanger. While it may not satisfy readers looking for a deep dive into Doom 2099's world, it succeeds as an entertaining chapter in Marvel's latest event. Read Full Review
Doomed 2009 #1 is an entertaining read adding in an intriguing one-shot chapter into the story. It has me wanting to go back and re-read Doom 2099 and hoping we might get more of the character in the future. It's not the most vital read for "One World Under Doom, but one for hardcore fans of the 2099 line. Read Full Review
For a One World Under Doom tie-in, I'm not opposed to the pitch. Doom 2099 assembles a group of heroes to combat current-day Doom and prevent his future from happening. Cool. The problem is, Frank Tieri generally just isn't a great writer, so a cool idea like this ends up being wasted because of that. I like the characters they use, but they do nothing here for me. There's really nothing that stands out. The art is doing a lot of heavy lifting for this issue.
I definitely expected more out of this than what it gave. First, the positives: the art was acceptable and all the different fan favorite heroes making appearances was cool. That's about all I got. The writing was really bad. I usually appreciate fan service, but it has to be done well. This book was largely just fan service moments in a chain and they were shallow, corny and sounded like preteen fanfic. Not to mention more than a few of the one-liners didn't even sound right coming from the characters who said them. I'd sooner believe half the team was shapeshifted Deadpools than they were who they looked like. I've enjoyed the One World Under Doom event, but this issue is the low point of it.
