Issues like this, that contain little vignettes, can be hit or miss, but this is definitely a hit with two stories that are fully well crafted, just in totally different ways. Read Full Review
Wow, things have really gotten wacky in the Spider-Verse last I read a Spider-man book. This book is quite a rollercoaster. Read Full Review
Edge of Spider-Verse #1 contains 2 vastly different versions of the Web-slinger. If youre a fan of dinosaurs or happen to like gritty, noir detective-type stories with a creepy flair to them, this comic is for you. It has humor as well as suspense and mystery. Perhaps these versions of the web-slinger will be seen again in future issues of this series or elsewhere. Who is your favorite alternate Spider-Man? Read Full Review
Definitely a niche comic for those wanting all the Spidey-related content they can get their hands on, but far from a must-read. Read Full Review
I was just saying (over on Cult of Carnage: Misery #1) that good storytelling can overcome my subjective distaste for a premise. And that's exactly what happens here. I'm sick unto death of Spider-Variant anthologies--but a longer look at Spider-Rex puts a solid hook in my enthusiasm.
Spider-Rex is my kind of stupid. I don't enjoy bad puns quite as much as Karla Pacheco, but I love to see more ridiculous dinosaur variants of classic Spidey characters. Reuniting Ms. Pacheco with her Spider-Woman partner Pere PĂ©rez is a good thing, too.
Unfortunately, the B strip damped my ardor back down. I can appreciate what the creators were aiming for, and they do a great job of establishing a creepy atmosphere. But in just 10 page more
These stories should've been flipped. The Spider-Killer story should've been expanded on and given the pages that the painfully one-note Spider-Rex story got. I don't dislike Karla Pacheco's writing. But... there's nothing about Spider-Rex that's worth reading about. Edge of Spider-Verse, like so many of these anthologies, doesn't seem to ever prove its worth.
Why is this still going on? These stories range from, interesting but not given enough space to just lame. They really need to wrap up the spider-verse as it just hurts at this point. Save your money. Don't read this series.
