Our guy AXO is in trouble. Big trouble. He's bitten off more than he can chew in his relationship with charismatic technologist and Verate C.E.O. Sheldon Xenos, and now he's being held hostage while an Alex clone wanders around in his stead. Can the rest of the Exceptional team bail him out, or will they fall for the dupe of their beloved friend?

Eve L. Ewing does a fantastic job at showing how far the young mutants have come since the days of being unable to control their mutant abilities and having a lack of trust in anyone that offered help. Read Full Review

Exceptional X-Men #8 is a bridge issue, elevated by an unforgettable Mr. Sinister performance and clever character interactions, even if the pace sags and the plot inches forward. It's a weird and fun detour that keeps the team grounded in personality while building toward bigger things. Read Full Review

I'm personally disappointed in the choice of villain and how it disrupted the story that was being built, but the strong character work gives this series life. Read Full Review

This comic has the same pacing of reheating food in the microwave. Moving slow and repetitive. The kids are fine. Kitty talks to her girlfriend and goes to work. There is no Emma and Bobby this issue. The stuff with Sinister should've got the ball rolling this issue, but once again nothing exciting with that happens until to the final

I give up on this x-book. The plot moves too slowly without any bite and sinister here interrupts a direction that could have been original to take a pattern that i fear is too predictable. Some people might find it pleasant to identify with the characters in this series, but after eight issues my interest faded.

A promising start with a Sinister scheme that feels like I'm reading an actual x-book, turns into more slice of life bullshit about bad gender binaries, political jackets and lesbian dating. I do enjoy the soap opera aspect of the X-Men, but this is just too much. Plus, these characters are insufferable. I hate them all.
