The Fantastic Four travel to Wakanda The Return of Black Panther to the pages of the F4. What happens when the world completely runs out of Vibranium?
For the most part this was a great issue. There's a level of suspense here that was great. The element of not knowing what is going to happen next really resonated with me and it's what made the issue so great. For the most part I really enjoyed the art and I thought it was really pretty; however; there were some panels that felt a bit strange and oddly incomplete. Overall, I thought that this was a decent stand-alone issue of FANTASTIC FOUR because it brings the reader down after reading such a dense cosmic adventure for so long. Although this issue was not as good as Hickman's Spider-Man and Johnny Storm story, it still served a similar purpose: it created a break in the series between story arcs with a story that depicted the value of human relationships. Fantastic Four #606 is a lovely stand-alone issue, the kind of jumping-on point I like (as opposed to the clip-shows that generally show up in Marvel's Point-One initiative) and does it's job well, earning 4 out of 5 stars overall. Honestly, after you read this issue, I suggest that you be a real life superhero and make a contribution to the American Cancer Society. Who knows, maybe your contribution will be the one to finally fund a real cure, instead of a fictional one. Read Full Review
Ron Garney is tasked with making their location unknown to the reader until the reveal, as that is the crux of the story. Unfortunately, there is little mystery to where they are from the get-go. Cavernous red tunnels, vessels stemming from the ceiling, and giant white attack orbs are clearly the inside of a body, especially to anyone who used to watch The Magic School Bus. This is not Garney's fault, but he could have been more creative with it, like Nick Bradshaw recently did in Wolverine and the X-Men #7. Read Full Review
I appreciate that "Fantastic Four" #606 is going for a slightly sentimental, heart-felt story as Hickman begins to prepare for the end of his run on the title. There's certainly a nice warm fuzzy feeling on the final page, and it helps make up for the predictable nature of the rest of the issue. But I hope we've got a bit more in store for us with Hickman's remaining issues. After an overall strong run, it would be sad to see his final issues end up as a series of slightly weaker notes. If Fantastic Four #606 were a back-up story, it would be a great done-in-one entre to Marvel's first family of imaginauts. The problem is, this is $2.99, for something we've already seen before (and seen done better). It should never feel business as usual with the Fantastic Four, but this issue feels as routine as it gets. Read Full Review
It's a real pity to see this kind of stuff out of Hickman when I know he can do so much better. He's constantly wowing me on The Manhattan Projects and, as I mentioned above - he's done such a great job on both Fantastic Four and FF. In the end, it just makes me with Marvel would cut Hickman loose early since his run is coming to an end very soon. Either that, or give him another three years so he could do another epic story and excel on these books. This issue is a pass unless you either must have every Fantastic Four issue or must have everything Hickman writes. Read Full Review
