THE BLACK VORTEX ENDS HERE!
• When an entire planet, and potentially the entire galaxy, is caught in the crosshairs of Knife's cosmically empowered forces, the Guardians and the X-Men face their final test.
• With billions of lives at stake, our heroes are forced to make the ultimate sacrifice.
• But in gaining the power to potentially defeat Knife, by submitting to the Black Vortex, could they have given up their humanity forever?
At first I was unsure if I was going to allow myself to get dragged into another Marvel crossover after being disappointed with so many of the other, recent events/crossovers. Yet, Humphries superb story construction and the epic artwork in The Black Vortex Omega make it a a stellar concluding issue, and the overall crossover well worth the time and money. Read Full Review
It's the first time in a while, where the cross-over event doesn't disappoint. Black Vortex ends and it's pretty satisfying, but at the same time, we get a lot of other stuff to love in this issue, including a few things we're not spoiling here. The book looks good and reads great, so I highly recommend checking out one of Marvel's better cosmic events. Read Full Review
Early issues saw a pretty formulaic approach to this crossover, but Sam Humphries nails the landing for a satisfying conclusion that leaves our characters and the circumstances that surround them changed. Read Full Review
Black Vortex Omega is a great read on a surface level because it keeps the action coming and never slows down until the very end. But it also goes a bit beyond just surface-level enjoyment. Black Vortex Omega is also great because it is one of those rare event comics that actually delivers a satisfying narrative arc for the team and for specific characters. There isn't too many crossovers that can say the same. Sam Humphries and his art team confidently bring Black Vortex to a conclusion that will only get better once it is all collected in one volume. The X-Men may stand alone on Earth, but in the expanse of space they have found a larger family in the Guardians and one can only hope that this weird, ramshackle group sticks around for a bit longer. Overall, I wasn't a huge fan of the Black Vortex event, although I thought it had a lot of potential. Perhaps this is a case of my expectations being one thing, but the story being another. However, I found the ending satisfying and I was happy to see the shake-up in the status quo. Many events promise big change, but never deliver. This one ultimately did with changes that have already made their way into our heroes' own titles. Despite any reservations I had about this event, I'm left almost feeling sad that the Guardians and X-Men have to part ways. Nevertheless, I have a feeling it's only a matter of time before they're all together again. Read Full Review
Its nonetheless sweet seeing Peter in love and almost on a different track. If you havent kept up with any of the recent Marvel space titles lately, I can tell you who hes in love with but then youll have to go back and read some Joss Wheden. Yes, Chris Platt is in love with Ellen Paige.. At least in the comic world. (I know what youre thinking; hes THAT good.) Either or, The Black Vortex Omegas defining moment was a great segway into another realm of possibilities between the worlds of both heroes. I am normally not a love story or rom-com kinda gal, but thus time I may make an exception!! Now, with Humphries looming Star-Lord & Kitty Pryde Secret Wars title, one wont have to just wonder what will happen after their happily ever after. Lets be honest; in comics, it will just have to be a Shakespearean adventure. Read Full Review
The final chapter in the 13-part Black Vortex crossover story has some great moments, but a few too many unresolved plot threads stop it from feeling as satisfying as it could have been. Read Full Review
It's how I feel about the whole event - some things to like, some to not like so much. A real mixed bag. Read Full Review
In his recent interview on "The Nerdist," Bendis stated that -- since the film -- the influx of younger readers wanting to check out "Guardians of the Galaxy" is staggering, so it's no surprise the creative teams are pitching to that audience. Readers looking for the dark stakes of Marvel's past cosmic crossovers will be let down by "The Black Vortex." However, it is a good story to keep to a younger reader interested in the continuing adventures of their favorite film characters. Read Full Review
BLACK VORTEX OMEGA #1's main draw is Ed McGuinness and Javier Garron on artwork. Much like McGuinness' work on NOVA, he's suited for space. The strange surroundings, massive spaceships, and funky costumes suit his pencils perfectly. Garron handles Peter's proposal to Kitty, and by god did he nail the reactions of Peter and Kitty. Speaking from someone who proposed to his (now) wife recently, the emotions are exactly how I felt. The quick panel with everyone celebrating make it hard not to smile. While the event left some bad taste in my mouth, at least the artwork left me happy when putting the issue down. Read Full Review
Decent even though I'm a little lost.
Decent ending to a rather mediocre event.
