It's the Mighty Avengers versus the New Avengers who have been overtaken by a symbiote virus. So, yeah, it's Avengers versus Avengers symbiotes!! Janet gets new powers!! And the Mighty Avengers declare war on a foreign country!! All this and Mark Bagley too!!
With this issue, Mighty Avengers easily overtakes New Avengers as the better of Bendis' two Avengers titles at the moment. This issue offers a severe, global-level threat; some large-scale action; logical plot development; cameos from the other Avengers team-members; some solid character moments (including a great scene which explores Tony Stark's internal reaction to the Skrull-instigated paranoia); and a cliffhanger which is intriguing enough to make me excited to read the next issue. I'd go so far as to say that Mighty Avengers #8 is a stronger Avengers book than any other issue written by Bendis so far, and whilst it might not blow you away with its originality or character insight, it's a very enjoyable superhero team book of the type that old-school Avengers fans thought had been lost since Avengers: Disassembled. The biggest and bestest news from this issue was a cameo by Ben Reilly in Tony's symbiote host files and you should all buy this book to show Marvel you want more of him. What? You don't like Ben? Screw you guys! Scarlet Spider rules! Bring back Ben! I'll go cry in the corner now. Read Full Review

A real waste of an issue all around, but unfortunately it was necessary in order to move the team out of their rut and into something we haven't already heard about, which is more or less promised next issue. It's a shame Mark Bagley's last Marvel work before his DC exclusive contract kicks in is this. Read Full Review
Mighty Avengers #8 was another pedestrian effort. If you are a big fan of Bendis, dig the old plotlines and themes from Civil War or like mindless brawls then pick up this issue. I think you will probably enjoy it. However, for the rest of the comic book readers out there I have to recommend passing on Mighty Avengers #8. It is just a regurgitation of what we already got in New Avengers #36 and it isn't worth your hard earned money. Just wait for Mighty Avengers #9 when the Doctor Doom story arc gets kicked off. Because it's so late, this issue feels like filler. Marvel should have just canned this story and moved on to a more current story. No new Skrulls are even revealed! All we get is Tony Stark's revelation that he's being played (by the Skrulls) and an answer as to whom sent the symbiotes in the first place. Read Full Review
