However, the issue is not without its weaknesses: yet again, Bendis proves that he's better at writing stories that deal with just one or two characters than he is at providing a decent team book, and as such, this issue might serve as yet more proof for his detractors that he's just not well-suited to write an Avengers title (let alone two). There's also the nagging feeling that Bendis is still unable to tip his hand too much before his crossover begins in full next week, and many of the elements of his story are reliant on Secret Invasion to give them a satisfying resolution. It's not that this is outright bad or not worth reading, but the sudden shift in tone and the feel that this is just Bendis trying to hype his, as of right now, nonevent by having the characters spout the same garbage he's been saying all year long in magazines and online. Just felt like he was reaching in a desparate attempt to say, "Look at me! SKRULLS! INVASION! See how crazy this is! Big event coming and the heroes are scared, you should be too!". New Avengers #39 was just a time waster until Secret Invasion #1 comes out. There is no reason that you need to waste your money on this issue. I would only recommend New Avengers #39 to hardcore Avengers fans and any big Echo fans that may be out there. Read Full Review

Really good issue. I interpreted the huge amount of black space and small panels in a lot of the pages as her ability to perceive the world only with her eyes. If that was the intention i really liked it. Still, I wish her deafness were more also utilized in the story itself.
