The Weekly Crisis - Kirk Warren Apr 30, 2008

Despite my misgivings, I think the background information on the Skrulls, Elektra and the reveal of SpiderWoman, coupled with incredible art, make this a Must Read for just about everyone but me. Read Full Review

Overall though, there is next to nothing to complain about if you are a Secret Invasion fan. This issue was made for the Invasion and will please anyone looking for deeper insight into what makes the Skrull invaders tick. Also, as mentioned before, the reveal is huge. Read Full Review

    IGN - Dan Phillips Apr 30, 2008

I've made no secret of my distaste for Leinil Yu'sketchy style of art, so you can imagine how pleased I was to see Jimmy Cheung's crisp, clearly defined work between these covers. Cheung's art perfectly captures the evolution of the Skrulls from goofy little green men to physically imposing badasses, and there is never a moment where you'll find yourself giggling at the sheer silliness of the Skrull characters, which cant be said of most of the stories in which they appear. "Secret Invasion" has only recently begun in earnest, but issues like this make it feel like it's been unfolding for years. An essential read for anyone following that story, even if you're not following this specific Avengers team. Read Full Review

This issue of New Avengers, while devoid of its regular cast does such a fantastic job of exposition that it will be a pleasure to most readers whether they are regular readers of the title or seasoned veterans of Bendis' prose which is refreshingly crisp and interesting this month. Comics Bulletin - David Wallace Apr 29, 2008

There's a nagging suspicion at the back of my mind which tells me that I might be enjoying these recent Avengers issues more than they deserve, simply because they're justifying my having stuck with the book through some fairly mediocre stories on the promise of an eventual payoff. However, even if that is the case, I still find it pretty hard to find any major flaws in the way Bendis has handled Secret Invasion so far. Let's hope that the storyline continues to be entertaining, and that the writer has planned a conclusion that is strong enough to deliver on the potential of its premise. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Rokk Krinn May 2, 2008

New Avengers #40 was an enjoyable read. And if you are a regular follower of The Revolution you know it is a rare day that I compliment this title. This might be one of the signs of the Apocalypse. If you are enjoying the Secret Invasion storyline then I recommend that you get this issue. You will certainly dig New Avengers #40. We get plenty of critical back-story in this issue. However, if you aren't into Secret Invasion then I would recommend passing on this issue. New Avengers #40 has nothing to do with the Avengers themselves. Read Full Review
