Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings #4 is an energetic adventure. What makes this comic shine is the constant elevation of the story, bringing in new strands to Shang-Chi's mythos and the legend of the Ten Rings. It expands the series into untold histories while still heavily focused on martial arts, and there is still time for Shang's attempt at a love life. Read Full Review
Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings #4 shifts the series into a story that reads like a second-rate combat tournament video game, complete with colorful opponents and an objective to survive multiple levels of a mystical pagoda. This issue is light, low-stakes fun, but don't look for a meaningful plot. Read Full Review
This was a fun issue and a solid start to a new arc, but hopefully, even better things lie ahead. Read Full Review
I'll say it's a simple story provided you agree to take that word as neutral or maybe even a little positive. The tournament is laid out clearly and succinctly and we get straight to the clobbering. There are plenty of deep cuts into Shang-Chi's history in the cast. The art looks great. While it could be more detailed, its clarity makes it even more dynamic in the action scenes.
The pace is a little rushed, though. The author committed to having 10 competitors, so some of them have to be dispatched abruptly.
Yah know, this could have been bloated to some event but lookie here, it's part of the main storyline, just like that.
Fun, simple, comicbooky~
