Aug 07, 2024Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood #1 isn't taking enough chances. The stories aren't bad, but they're pretty safe, especially since not a single one delves into the violent nature of the symbiote given Spider-Man. I'm excited for this series to lean more into adult themes, but so far, it's not doing enough to feel different from any other Spider-Man story. At the very least, you haven't seen Spider-Man this creepy in ages. Read Full Review

Plot This special has several short stories from different creative teams: "LOSING FACE" by J.M. DEMATTEIS and ELENA CASAGRANDE: This story is based on an iconic scene by Dematteis and nourishes it with new information, highlighting Spidey's positive influence. "INSIDE THE HOUSE" by ALYSSA WONG and FRAN GALÃN: MJ experiences the paranoia of living with a Peter Parker affected by the space symbiote. "DYSMORPHIA" by DUSTIN NGUYEN: A chilling story that shows Spider-Man's internal struggle against the evil power of the symbiote. "FADE TO BLACK" by J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI, SUMIT KUMAR, CRAIG YEUNG INKER and DONO SÃNCHEZ-ALMARA: A last vestige of the symbiote throws Peter in the face of everything he helped him achieve.

It's a bunch of compiled stories form different authors. I thought we were getting a story arc. It's fine, but these types of books aren't my thing.
