Salute to DeMatteis for respecting continuity. These flashback series are only fun when they aren't loaded with retcons

The author and narrator-Pete burn 15 pages examining grief through the eyes of all their characters, and only at the end does the plot actually advance. It's rescued from being dull by some nice art and a uniquely sympathetic conversation with the Sandman.
Still, there's an AWFUL lot of narration for my taste, and too much of it retreads ground covered in #1.
