This run is when you take a break from playing the main story in a video game to power up and do side quests. It's fun and exciting, and this issue showcases Vader reaching a new level within his force abilities, making him even more frightening. This issue has Vader using force, cutting down droids with his saber, and outwitting his opponent, all of which make him terrifying. I really enjoyed this issue. Read Full Review
Star Wars: Darth Vader #41 concludes this portion of Vader's part in the Dark Droids event. After his defeat against the Emperor, Vader seemingly allows the Scourge to merge with him, but it's a ploy from the Dark Lord to gain its power for himself. The comic doesn't take the idea too far into any interesting directions, but we get some good art with Vader in action against the Scourged droids. Read Full Review
This issue largely highlights the overall issue with this Dark Droids event, which is that, for franchise-sprawling storyline about an inhuman threat, there's not much interesting about the antagonist and the stakes feel incredibly low, as we know the fallout of the event isn't even a blip on the story of the original trilogy. Unless you've been loving this storyline there's not much for you here other than more Vader on droid violence, although it is interesting to see that Darth Vader has Imperials after him for his attack on the Emperor and it is somewhat interesting to see Vader be able to control the Force through any droid he's connected to. Pretty bad wrap up to the Dark Droids tie-in, still written at the level of an 80s Saturday morning cartoon for the breakfast cereal crowd. Lots of half-baked ideas that go nowhere, and a few mildly interesting ideas that still don’t impact the movie continuity in any discernible way.
Vader suddenly pulls some grand master plan for how to deal with the droid threat out of his bottom, meaning it made very little sense, it wasn’t set up well or earned, and was hard to keep up with. Lots of endless panels of robots exploding if you like that type of stuff. I didn’t and I’m ecstatic that this Droids nonsense is over with.
