Following the blockbuster finale of Darth Vader #25, the fan-favorite character begins a new journey in STAR WARS: DOCTOR APHRA #1 - the new ongoing series coming this December! From superstar writer Kieron Gillen (Darth Vader) and fan-favorite artist Kev Walker (Marvel Zombies) comes Marvel's first ongoing series starring an original character created in the comics!
Following her time in the clutches of Darth Vader, Doctor Aphra has barely escaped with her life. If he ever learns of her survival, he'll hunt her to the ends of the galaxy. But for now, it's time for a return to what she does best. With the dro more
The issue ends on a cliffhanger, as most comic issues, do, though I won't spoil what that or the mystery of Vaale is. This issue was really good! I'm still really into the story, and the art from Cresta and Rosenberg is just as amazing as it was in the first issue. This Doctor Aphra relaunch is already living up to its predecessor, if not already exceeding it! My only hope is that Magna Tolvan returns at some point, I miss her and Aphra's complicated romance. Doctor Aphra #2 tops the first issue and then some. Suckers for storytelling need to check out this issue and its use of flashbacks. Given the cliffhanger it's safe to say this may be one of the more important Star Wars books to read if you want to know it all. Read Full Review
Star Wars: Doctor Aphra is a fantastic comic. If you liked her in the Darth Vader series, youll love her here. Her droids are a delight, her casually uncaring attitude towards others is great, and learning about her depths just makes her a more compelling character. Read Full Review
Aphra's hooked into a quest that even she's unsure of its validity. Where this issue takes Aphra is quite the surprise. This continues to cement Aphra's place as a major character in the Star Wars universe. Read Full Review
Is it too soon to label this series Marvel's best Star Wars comic? It's certainly making a strong case for itself so far. Read Full Review
I'm definitely on board for a lot more and hope that Gillen gets to really spread his wings here and add more to this rich canvas he has access to. Read Full Review
This second entry into a new series for Aphra comes with little action, but a lot of important character and story set up. Those kind of slow but informative episodes really pay off in the long game. Aphra continues to seem in great hands with the new group working on it, an all female team for once. With this issue ending with a cliffhanger, Aphra fans are sure to get more action and adventure as this series continues to roll out Read Full Review
This is a really fun comic. Doctor Aphra is a likeable lead, I think not in spite of, but because of her moral ambivalence. The dialogue is snappy without being annoying, and the different aspects of the 2 flashbacks here is clever. Doctor Aphra and her murder-droids are characters worthy of the great cast "Star Wars" offers.
fun story, good characters. Aspects of the plot are cool, but the return to Yavin feels silly. This sometimes plays out too much like "star wars but what if they were all bad guys"
It seems that the Doc has some daddy issues. What a treat to see them bond over space Indiana Jones-style adventures, with killer robots and a wookie bounty hunter tagging along for the ride.
This is a pretty solid comic. I like that Aphra's father is now included and their are some flashbacks that add more backstory to the character. There are some pretty great character moments in here too. Triple 0 and BT-1 are still as awesome as ever.
