I can't stress enough how important this book is to the continued existence of the Marvel Ultimate universe, operating as it does in such rarefied levels of quality that it leaves it sibling titles looking helplessly drab in comparison. With this new Spider-Man finally beginning to make first contact with Peter Parker's well-worn rogues gallery, the book could so easily have given in to an impression that it was simply reinventing the wheel. This issue is just one giant slam-dunk for Pichelli. She even breaks the glass of the backboard. Her Venom is off the hook with thick limbs sprouting dinosaur claws and long tentacles that whip furiously about. The way it moves is like a charging gorilla and a hungry alligator combined, which lets her show off the agile yet not-that-graceful movements of Miles. Miles knows how to jump but hasn't figured out how to stick all of the landings yet. And for all of this blood-pumping action, Bendis knows how to bring it all around to make it a personal affair in the end. Read Full Review

Although some other Spidey comics have been getting better, this is still the Spider-Man comic to get every month. Its a must buy. Bendis has never been better and Pichelli is really finding a nice style for Miles. There is a whole hoard of symbiotic enthusiasts out there, so I would imagine even more people will be jumping on board. You should as well. Read Full Review

If you have not experiences the Ultimate Spider-Man universe yet for whatever reason, then get involved in this issue. It is a great jumping on point, and I am sure many old school fans will just fall in love with this version of Venom. I really can't wait to see more of him in this series, and how Miles is going to overcome such a strong bad guy. It is also going to be interesting to see just who this new Venom is, as he seems to know a lot about how Miles has become this new Spider-Man. Regardless of the action, Bendis brings a human element to his story, making the final few pages heavy with emotion. The bookends of the comic are Miles' life with his parents, and Bendis brings that conflict full circle. He hasn't experienced loss like Peter Parker did, but those days may be numbered, and while the arc is about Venom, the story is clearly about Miles and his family. Read Full Review

Venom is spends most of the fight dropping teasers because whether it's down to sheer ignorance ornaivety Miles hasn't seemed to question how exactly he got his powers. I love this series, and I've been a huge support of it, but this issue was a tad of a let down. It's still a good and fun read, but the writing and story are not on par with the rest of the series here. I believe this is building to something bigger and better. Bendis has always done extremely well with this book, and I'm still very excited to continue onward with this series.The best part of this book is flat-out the art. Pichelli and Ponsor nail it. Venom looks extremely cool, and the fight scenes are awesome. However, great art isn't going to make a comic awesome.Overall, I liked this book, and I give this a mild recommendation.
