The story opens with the X-men training in the schools gymnasium. Today Scott Summers is practicing the speed at which he can blast bean bags that are being launched at him by the Beast. The other boys are involved with some one-upmanship and roughhousing until Professor X calls them to order. The X-Men discover another mutant, the Blob, & bring him back to the X-Mansion, where Xavier offers him membership. When the Blob declines, the X-Men then realize their mistake since the Blob now knows their secret identities and location. Recognizing that he is now a threat to the X-Men, the Blob decides to take them out first & leads his band of carnival workers in an attack on the X-Mansion. (Cover date: January, 1964)
I must admit, I really enjoyed the story at first, especially the idea of them trying to recruit a new member, but failing to convince him to join. But... The logic simply dies in cringe here. When Blob finally refuses, shocked Professor just tells that he needs to make Blob forget about X-Men and their identities. But why did he need his lab for that? He just easily destroyed the memories of the Vanisher in the previous issue... And by the second half of the issue the story just turns out to be the X-Men vs Blob's circus. Stan Lee really loved to make his heroes fight some evil circuses... The story would be better if Blob accepted their invitation to the team, but was actually expelled for something and then decided to take revenge for thmore
Bad choices lead to X-men and their identity at threat.. Interesting premise with lot of action to cherish.Blob is hell of a weird choice to be a villain making this one a variety indeed.
