Sure, I have some minor complaints here and there with this issue, but I'm telling you, VENOM just gets better and better. This issue shines because of some big plot developments, stunning visuals and a seriously entertaining action scene. Maybe it's because I'm a total sucker for lesser-known villains, but this storyline has me all kinds of excited and I totally loved it. I can't wait to get my hands on the next issue. VENOM could have felt overcooked, but it doesn't – there are a lot of things happening in this issue, and impatient readers may wonder where Bunn is going with the seemingly disparate ideas he continues to throw at us every issue. However, none of this is accidental – I think Bunn wants us to have a feeling of uneasiness and tension, and wants us to sort through the clues ourself. It can't be coincidence that Venom finds himself in a love triangle between a Goddess and a monster hunter, or that all of his villians are either horrific experiments or forgotten '90s relics, or that the subject of bullying comes up in almost every interaction…can it? Bunn is clearly taking us somewhere, and if you really are sick of endless events or World Changing Moments, consider VENOM #37 – and maybe we'll end up with a return to long-form serialized superhero stories, with mature emotional resonance and undeniably exciting action. While I'm not sold on Lord Ogre being any real kind of a criminal mastermind quite yet, with the inclusion of Jack O'Lantern, he really is starting to look like a Kingpin ripoff. Still with good old Jack in tow, it'll be fun to see the reunion between him and his best pal Venom! Read Full Review
Decent issue, definitely could have been better. I expected things to progress a bit faster, but too much time was wasted with the reporter just to simply ask her for help. It was made into something nigger than it really needed to be and it took away from the real conflict in finding Lord Ogre. Unless she's actually helping, I find Katy to be in the way. It's been a while that Flash has been setup in Philly, but I feel like he's really just getting started, he doesn't have much of a supporting cast yet, and that's one of the biggest things holding him back. Hopefully Bunn starts expanding on characters like the students in school, Katy, and even Eddie Brock, and make them part of Flashes life more than just background noise while while he's dealing with bad guys. The writing is okay. The art makes it a little tough to see what's going on in some panels, but still a fun issue.
