Admittingly, I have not kept up with Ninjak since his older self teamed up with Gilad in the previous arc. Something about an old Ninjak and a "future" story that has nothing to do with current Ninjak is just off-putting. That being said, I'm calling this a return to form and it couldn't have come a better time. That cliffhanger at the end left me in anticipation and I cannot wait for next month's issue. This is seriously a fantastic prelude to the new arc and I urge you to pick it up. Even if you're new to Ninjak, the excellent story telling and action will leave you wanting more. Read Full Review

The plotted issue by Kindt with Cafu on art is perfectly done. No dialogue is needed, as the sequential art displayed panel to panel is perfect in telling the story. This is one of the most unique and well done pieces of comic book art I have seen in quite some time, as it shows the strength of two great storytellers. Are you excited to see the return of Master Darque? Because if you have followed enough Valiant stories up to this point then you know what happens when this villain is set loose. The pacing keeps you flipping pages quicker and quicker to get to the explosive point and that's the intent of it. There's a lot to like in digging into the individual panels to see how Cafu achieves what he does but it's something that a lot of casual readers won't do, instead likely griping a bit about how "light" the book is. I'm of a mixed mind on it because it does work and works well, but it left me wishing for just a bit more to latch onto for this arc and what's to come, particularly as a very casual Valiant reader with this as my only ongoing of theirs.
