So, as far as the first installment of Planet Death goes, this issue delivers. Like, really delivers. Like a biker kicking down your door and giving you the delivery of burning your house down"while you love every minute of it. But at the same time, Planet Death Part One is going to be something much more complex and character driven than we've seen in a while. If you've been reading X-O and you've felt like the title may have been dragging its feet, pick up X-O Manowar #11. If you want to jump on, now is a good time as well. A very satisfying beginning to a much anticipated story arc, “Planet Death” part 1 does not disappoint. On a side note, it was recently announced that Robert Venditti will be Geoff Johns’ successor on Green Lantern. After seeing what he accomplished with the Vine’s origin and home world, GL’s alien races & strange worlds seems like a perfect fit and I can’t wait to see where he’ll take it. Read Full Review

X-O MANOWAR #11 is awesome. I'm not going to spice it up with an over-the-top analogy this week. This is a book you should be reading because it's consistently great. While Aric finally has a chance to extract his revenge on the Vine, he finds out it's not that easy. Venditti keeps this book fresh, month after month, and the opening sequence is written and drawn beautifully. My only problem was that outside of that opening sequence borders, the colors felt very flat.Overall, I highly recommend this issue and series. Read Full Review
Unfortunately, the art in this issue isn't quite as epic as the story. Cary Nord does some brilliant work with the panels on the first few pages, but then things get a little clunky. The inking lines are hard and thick, giving the book a brushy, sketched look. This makes for a lack of detail and a general unfinished feeling. Still, X-O Manowar #11 does a good job of bringing in lapsed readers like myself back into the fold. Unlike the start of the series, there is enough here that I want to know what happens next. If the creative team can find cohesion between art and words, this "Planet Death" arc could be a real winner for Valiant. Read Full Review
