While not a game changing story to end on, X-O Manowar #47 is another great entry into Venditti's long run on X-O Manowar. The art manages to engage and captivate on every page even if it isn't quite as impressive as the Cary Nord days of old. Each issue shows that a lot of love and care has been put into this revival of Valiant's literally ancient hero. One wonders if characters such as Shadowman, Eternal Warrior, or even Ninjak have the name and weight to compensate for our favorite Visigoth's eventual absence. The Face of Gods story has kicked off in the pages of X-O Manowar in break neck fashion and deserves your attention. Robert Venditti gives us a menacing threat and this issue is a really good jumping on point for new readers, but that doesn't mean long time readers won't be thrilled as well. Long Live the King Part 1 more than lives up to the hype with an amazing epic with an enemy that could be the strongest Aric has ever faced. Venditti weaves the end of the Kill List into Long Live the King seamlessly as he tackles all the main characters into a desperate battle and plight. The art was superb with great detail and wonderful line work that was crisp. The colors were vibrant as ever. Besides the brevity of the issue and Trill's Cobra Commander like retreat, it was a excellent start to the X-O Manowar storyline. Read Full Review

If you haven't picked up X-O Manowar yet, definitely give it a read. It's a lot easier to digest than Valiant's other titles, which suffer from crossover-mania; here, we just have a power-suited Gothic warrior fighting alongside former enemy aliens to defeat towering goo-monsters. These creatures pose a threat on an all-new scale to Aric. He cannot simply punch his way out of this problem. No weapon seems to work. To stop these creatures, the Visigoth king will need to use a swift masterstroke. Let's hope the price to protect his loved ones doesn't end up costing Aric a hefty price. Read Full Review

If you've read an arc of X-O Manowar, you should know what you're getting into in terms of plot. There's Aric (X-O Manowar) and his new kingdom of Visgoths and Vine refugees having to survive a new, extraterrestrial threat. Only this time, their the apparent gods from the Vine's former homeworld, Loam. I could be wrong, and the arc's end could be a massive payoff for longtime readers. But as it stands right now, the issue is retread of previous plot points. On the other hand, new readers, or those looking for a their superhero fix during an off-week for the Big Two, should find this to be satisfying. Read Full Review

Maybe this issue didn't have the best start, but it certainly had a great end and solid promise for the following issues. The bulk of this issue is an action-packed battle, and I'm probably alone in finding the dump of exposition at the beginning the most fascinating aspect. Such does a wonderful job of adding to the mythology of the Valiant Universe, but it's not itself sufficient to bring new readers up to speed. That said, it is enough to whet one's appetite, to garner greater interest in how the story got to this point and where it's going from here.
