It's always hard to know for sure who is winning in a war, but for Christopher and his allies, they sure don't see a clear victory coming anytime soon. While Chris and Sofia try to deal with a personal tragedy falling out from the attack on her convoy, Nassir's enemies make another move on him and his wife-and this time the couple won't get away so easily. This all began with two dead bodies, but it's anyone's guess how many more there will be before everything is finished.

If "Sheriff of Babylon" #6 fails in any sense, it's that the story isn't structured or packaged to catch a broad audience. That's not an aesthetic failing, but rather more of a tactical one. Chris Henry's accessibility as an American Everyman is an attempt to mitigate the distance, but alienation is still an emotional leitmotif of "The Sheriff of Babylon." This has been the most intense issue in the series, which is saying a lot. I had to set this one down after a particular scene and take a moment to just breathe. King and Gerads working together creates something really special; the words and pacing are amplified by the actions and expressions of the characters.
I don't know where the story is going next, but I can't wait to find out. Powerful stuff all around. I hope everyone who missed #1 through #6 pick up the trade in July. You'll be rewarded by something unlike anything else you're reading.
