Action Comics (2016) #957

Jun 8, 2016

This didn't do a lot for me as a non-Superman fan who has read very little Superman since the New 52 (and before). With that being said, there were still elements that were interesting, like making Lex the hero (and Clark possibly the villain to his own ego). The art was gorgeous, but I don't know that there was enough for me to stick around to buy this twice a month.

Afterlife With Archie #9

If I was to rate this any lower, it would only because I have to wait so long between issues. This book is as always excellent and Reggie's story was so interesting. This book is must-read.

Aquaman: Rebirth #1

Jun 8, 2016

This for me has been the weakest entry to Rebirth thus far. I think the aspects of being a ruler mixed with super hero are interesting, but have been done far better before. Even some of the parts that could have been interesting felt like retreads of previous stories. This reminded me too much of New 52 Aquaman #1, which I enjoyed, but I do not feel like I am getting anything new or returned to me here. It is just a standard tale.

Batgirl (2011) #52

May 31, 2016

The series wraps up to leave fans of this run at least with a conclusion to the Burnside Batgirl story...but so much is packed in and ultimately it all feels a bit underwhelming after being a very solid run from Fletcher.

Batman: Rebirth #1

Jun 2, 2016

This was an interesting relaunch to Batman. I wish Janin was staying on to be the artist on the main series rather than David Finch because his art is beautiful and his Bruce Wayne looks great. It was cool seeing Duke get an upgrade and I am curious for what they do with his character moving forward. This book was more of a restart to the original Bruce Wayne status quo so that Tom King could work with his own world rather than the one built by Snyder.

Captain America: Steve Rogers #1

The hate this book is receiving is mind-blowing to me. This issue was very well told. What a great way to kick off a new Cap book. If I had flaws with this book, it is that it is very heavy handed with the metaphors to what is happening in our current political climate...however that is actually something that I loved about it. As far as the twist ending...comic books have been filled with them for a long time. I do not see this as one that changes a status quo or even the character itself, just a unique way of telling yet another Cap/HYDRA story. I am definitely adding this book to my pull list.

Civil War II #1

I love Bendis. I loved the artwork by Marquez & Ponsor. I think Marvel events usually tend to start strong and finish weak, but I felt this was a bit of a weak start. Hopefully that means it builds to something stronger and not weaker. I think the idea behind the conflict is interesting, but I didn't feel the weight of the conflict between the two ideals conveyed in this story. I have not been reading the Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Inhumans, or Avengers books so maybe they have been building to this, but as a 1st issue without background info this story felt more forced than necessary. With that being said, it wasn't a bad issue and there was still enough there to make me want to read this event even though the price point is WAY too much especially considering how much we got out of DC Rebirth #1 for $2.99.

DC Universe: Rebirth #1

Pulled on some heart strings. Set up what is to come enough to make me interested in a wide variety of characters I would otherwise not be interested in. Currently my DC pulls only include Batman, Batgirl, and Gotham Academy. Following the Rebirth, it will be much larger. Twists at the end are very intriguing

Detective Comics (2016) #934

Jun 8, 2016

This was an intriguing story for me with very beautiful art. While it went over some of the classic tropes for recruiting a team in the first issue, I enjoyed the interactions and the idea of putting these characters together as a more organized Bat-team. Putting Batwoman as a leader is great, as is having Red Robin, Spoiler, and Orphan together. Clayface was something I was on the fence about but his introduction scene was so heartbreaking that he has already been sold to me as the most compelling part of this team. While this issue felt shorter than any of the other Rebirth titles, I am interested to see where it goes next.

Flash: Rebirth (2016) #1

Jun 8, 2016

I was worried that I would not see any progression on the story from DC Universe Rebirth #1, yet here we were. I enjoyed the story that was being told and Barry's interactions with the various characters in this issue. I can't say that I am sold on Di Giandomenico's artwork yet, but the story was interesting enough to make me want to read on.

Green Arrow: Rebirth #1

Jun 2, 2016

I thought this was a great start to the book and my favorite of the Rebirth #1's this week. Green Arrow is back in a place that I loved about the character before as a social justice warrior. The art is beautiful and having Ollie and Dinah together was a great return to the roots. I am looking forward to collecting a Green Arrow book again.

Green Lanterns: Rebirth #1

Jun 2, 2016

I thought the start of this book was strong, but it began to become less and less exciting for me to read as it went on. With that being said, I have read very little Lantern books in the past and Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz seem interesting enough for me to want to learn more. I have been very iffy on Sam Humphries before, but I am hoping that this book could change that for me.

Ms. Marvel (2015) #7

Jun 2, 2016

I had so much fun reading this issue. The best thing about Miles being brought to the main universe is the interactions we get between him and Ms. Marvel, as well as their casts of characters. Plus, I mean there are floating sharks in the sky. What's not to love about that?

7.0
Scooby Apocalypse #1

May 26, 2016

This book was a lot of fun to read. It is a unique twist on characters I grew up loving to watch. In a post-Afterlife with Archie world, I am very open for books like Scooby Apocalypse. At $3.99 per issue I am not sure that I will stay on month-to-month, but I will at least give #2 a shot before deciding.

6.0
Superman: Rebirth #1

Jun 2, 2016

I have yet to find my Superman book and based on this I do not know that I am going to find it yet. The artwork was strong and I think the writing was strong enough that hopefully once we can move past the convoluted New 52/Convergence stuff this book can be something for me to enjoy. This book was used to set up several different books so I understand that Tomasi had a lot of ground to cover, but it just did very little for making me a Superman fan.

Wonder Woman: Rebirth #1

Gorgeous artwork and one of the best writers made this book a great read. I am beyond interested to see what happens next and in year one with Wonder Woman.
