Marauders (2019) #14

Theres a lot of fun wits and dramatically tense ideas on this issue. Sadly, the characters forced chemistry, the rigid pacing and structure, and a shifting but not emotionally cohesive art make it fall as a filler in the XoS greater narrative.

DC: Love Is A Battlefield (2021) #1

Feb 9, 2021

The execution is fun with an excellent artistic team vibrantly dressing up the story and the references it gets into will make more than one fan smile, but the bottom line of what you will get reading this story is: they're not even gonna kiss when they die together. And most of the gays in this anthology are dead anyway.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Too Long a Sacrifice #1

Jul 20, 2020

"Too Long a Sacrifice" promises, like the series is based on, a lot for past and future. It is a mystery noir story with wonderful character work that vibes with the dialogues. It has conflict that promises to be way more than what meets the eye. And it definitely is a posthumous tribute to Ren Murat Auberjonois' brilliant role that is done with care and love.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Too Long a Sacrifice #2

Sep 1, 2020

ReviewThis comic keeps presenting a master exercise in storytelling. From page one, it will get you right into it with the dialogue of beloved characters like Quark or Worf, that combines gracefully with the realist noir art to give you the exact impression of a discarded episode flowing through the pages. It uses this mechanism of pacing, dialogue, Odo's narration and familiarity of the characters to arrive to explosive moments of tension and beautiful phrases that condense the story, the conflict and its characters, like the moment between Garak and Odo where Garak highlights, in a detective way, how the station has countless secrets. The on-point characterization, intrigue and how the stakes are up are two of the strong points of this comic, but this same constant rising of stakes and the use of dead of secondary characters for shocking the narrative can desensitize the reader a little. Of course, the writers are aware of the meaning of this rising of stakes, so they give each of the

Overall, Im more than impressed with this creative team, and the guest star narrative of this issue works absolutely in favor of it, even within Phillips larger narrative, to take a breath of fresh air that is gonna make a fan of any of the two characters smile. Hellions (2020) #4

Sep 16, 2020

Hellions ends its first arc in a traumatic but bonding conclusion, combining bloody and raw art with dark coloring with an issue in which everyone has their heart a little tore apart. The story clearly calls back to Louise Simonson and Chris Claremont's Summers drama in "Inferno," and the tribute and themes it takes focusing in Havok, the ignored brother, and Madelyne, the unreal girl, is bittersweet and perfect. In the middle of a Krakoan reboot era that makes it impossible to tidy all loose ends or explore all characters, Zeb Wells makes sure we understand this team's growing bond deeply, and that Madelyne's loose end is tied closely, even showcasing the Quiet Council's hypocrisy and imperfection. The dysfunctional-but-clear-bond between these characters finally explodes when they all laugh together as they are "a bunch of crazy sons of %$!&!". There's a certain joy here for me as someone with a mental illness and survivor of systemic mental health abu

Zeb Wells is putting out the most fun and engaging outcasts X-book possible, and with Carmen Carnero and David Curiels realistic and precious art approach, it fits as perfectly and strangely as its cast. Feb 29, 2020

Amy Reeder takes on writing, art and colour duties (with Gabriela Downie in lettering) in a brilliant new reinvention of this character, which subverts most of the magical girl narratives. The idealized fantasy transformation of a child into an adult in a fantasy world turns into an adolescent who doesn't magically grow and also doesn't live an stereotypical adventure of the right versus the wrong. DC Pride (2021) #1

Jun 8, 2021

Adorable, emotionful and immensely important short story that puts Harlivy in its place as the cutest girlfriends of DC, and that goes to the necessary lengths to make them justice. Overall, really happy about this, and, if you're a fan of them, there's no way you won't enjoy it!

b.b. free #3

Mar 22, 2020

b.b. free handles every issue more like a love & care letter to oppressed kids, like a story of finding your own strength and owning it. It gives us some of the most important moments in representation, and the art moves emotionally with the story. It's a captivating, fun and fantastical read that I feel is important we look up to, both readers and creators.
