I can't say enough how much I love this series, with this issue standing head and shoulders above the four issues that preceded it. Wood, D'Anda and Eltaeb are making a serious case for becoming my favorite comic team. If you are a Star Wars fan, even if you don't like comics, you are doing yourself a serious disservice if you are not reading this. On a side note, this book has also upped my excitement for Wood's forthcoming X-Men work for Marvel. He's been there in the past, but has yet to lay it down for MarvelNOW! Wood does a wonderful thing here as he grows the Star Wars universe from A New Hope to Empire Strikes Back right in front of our eyes. We're seeing more bounty hunters and hearing further talk about the nature of the Force, but in little juicy snippets that would titillate any Star Wars faithful. And that's just what this series is about: sending us on a grand adventure with new stakes, new characters, and new dangers, yet it all feels as familiar as your favorite pair of Star Wars pajama pants. With the focus on the other characters, Luke and Prithi‘s storyline gets only a couple of pages, as does that of the Dark Lord of the Sith who makes a decision concerning the troubling identity of the young man who destroyed the first Death Star and Vader‘s current assignment overseeing the new Death Star. Since the series is at issue five I have to assume that we're building up to a conclusion to the ark hopefully with the next issue. There's a ton of potential in the story so I'm going to have to be a little more patient and not expect some epic climax in every issue. With the introduction of Boba Fett, Brian Wood has tapped into every fanboys inner core and will leave us waiting in agony for a whole month to see what kind of bad assery he gets himself into. If you're just a casual fan of Star Wars and want to open up your pull list for other titles then finish out this arc and buy future trades but if you're a fan like me then hold on tight, be patient, and if the story is heading in a direction that you don't approve of then feel free to drop it like third period French. While there are some very strong scenes and development in this issue, Brian Wood would take great benefit in showing rather than telling what is happening in the space battles. This issue has “segue” written all over it. It's unfortunate, because the battle between X-Wing's and Tie Fighters should have been much more exciting, but instead it wasn't paced very well. That leaves the reader with a lot of exposition and setup for the following issue. Anyone enthralled with the characters will want to take this ride on and probably don't need me to tell them. Not a lot of character in this issue, but some good action. I'm not always that interested in the space battles when they aren't on screen, but this is still pretty impressive.
