“Criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot.” Batman has long depended on this mantra to uphold justice in Gotham City. But what if Gotham was a city devoid of fear? Would this lead to a city free of inhibitions or a populace driven suicidal by an inability to process mortal terror? To answer thisquestion, the Dark Knight will embark on a harrowing adventure that mustbe seen to be believed!Join the powerhouse team of Tom Taylor and Mikel Janín for a brand-new arcthat teams Batman and the DCU’s most iconic heroes to unravel the mysteryof a terrifying world without fear.
This is a very strong opening issue for a mystery with truly high stakes. The flashback at the beginning, while not directly relevant to the main plot of this issue, hints at threads that will likely pay off further down the linewhich is why I've chosen to mention it here rather than in the breakdown. Suffice it to say, this story has all the ingredients of a gripping, high-stakes mystery that promises to escalate in fascinating ways. Read Full Review
Taylor's run on Detective has been strong so far, but this issue sets the stakes for this new arc even higher right from the start. Read Full Review

Detective Comics #1101 expertly blends detective work and suspense. It's a compelling start to an arc that promises to challenge Batman on every level. Batmans worst fear might have become a reality in this opening chapter. Taylor layers elements of horror throughout the search for clues. Janin delivers stunning art that only amplifies an already incredible read. This has all the makings for a legendary case. Read Full Review
Janin's visual style and tone are perfect for this story and the character. The pages are brilliantly detailed and drawn in a way that both matches and enhances the tone and mood of the story. Read Full Review

I'll get right to the point. This was a great start to the next arc, but slight gaps in logic hold it back. The way Mikel Janin draws Batman is sometimes divisive, but I found this story to be visually endearing. Although, the psychedelic way he colors the flashback in inverted color feels like a strange aesthetic choice. Otherwise, Batman's glaring stupidity in handling a dangerous scenario right after bragging about other skills before warning others is a misstep in characterization. Apart from that, this story already shares DNA with Batman: Contagion or “Terminal” from Detective Comics Vol. 2 #35-36. Overall, I can't wait to see where a story like this goes. Read Full Review
Detective Comics #1101 shoots for moody grandeur but gets tripped up by its own overwrought pacing and bewildering mutant prologue. The art delivers knockout visuals, and the central premise is intriguing enough to bait readers forward. If Gotham survives the viral fog, maybe Batman (and this story) will finally find its claws next issue.6.5/10We hope you found this article interesting. This is a Batman comic.
Tom Taylor does it again. He puts out a solid issue so far, I like seeing Batman being all detective and grounded in this story.
Another gripping tale launches strong out of the gate thanks to Taylor and Janin. While the new BATMAN volume that launched this month gets all the press and (deserved) accolades, this title and its creative team are often overlooked while consistently telling great stories month in and month out. This latest mystery is certainly no exception. I feel like all of the core Batbooks are firing on all cylinders right now!
