"Yearbook" has concluded, and you know what? I liked it a lot. I don't know that you could sustain a book indefinitely in this format, but luckily the publisher doesn't intend to. Gotham Academy will be back next September with the "second semester," and will crossover with Lumberjanes this summer which is a series I WILL be reviewing. This last arc in Gotham Academy before Rebirth has been entertaining and mostly of a high quality, and I think the editorial staff in particular should probably take a bow here.  Read Full Review

Gotham Academy #18 ends “Yearbook” strong, but be more excited for what's to come as Fletcher, Cloonan, and Kerschl will be back together this fall to continue with the Academy's Next Semester. While the Yearbook story arc has become increasing more enjoyable with each passing issue, I found the conclusion mildly disappointing. That's not to say that the individual stories presented within this chapter weren't entertaining, but the over-arching story that tied them all together since the beginning was nowhere near as relevant as I hoped it would be. If you're fine with all of this having just been for fun, then you'll be perfectly satisfied with the ending. But if you're like me and were hoping for revelations, you'll be sadly dissatisfied. Gotham Academyalways has fun moments and great characters in Maps, Olive, and Pomeline. While this issue focuses heavily on characters we don't care as much about, it's a treat to see each creative team bring humor, original story, and vivid art to every page. While not my favorite arc of the series as a whole, I generally liked the Gotham Yearbook material – but wish it was spread out more throughout the series. This installment brings it to close with a nice touch in regards to Maps and Robin that should make you smile while Olive is just surprised by it all. The book is coming back in August with a one-shot story before a full new arc lands in September as part of the "second semester" billing. We'll definitely be back for a whole lot more.
