Some nice stories and some great artwork equals a really worthwhile comic book. The connecting thread of this clip show is a little thin, but it doesn't have to be anything too dramatic for what is basically a light-hearted romp through the spooky side of Gotham City and the DCU. Frankly, if this was the format for Gotham Academy going forward, I'd probably be okay with it. But if it isn't, then it's still a good time, well worth checking out (from the beginning of this arc) if you're curious about the students of Gotham City's third-creepiest institute of learning. While the opening acts of the Yearbook story arc seemed aimless to me, the last two books have really begun to pull things together. It's starting to seem that the point behind all this was to highlight some of the real mysteries behind Gotham Academy. While it's unfortunate that we had to sift through some of the more mundane tales in order to get to this point, it's looking as if this arc might be shaping up to be more than just a collection of discombobulated randomness. This was probably my favorite issue of the arc so far. Gotham Academy continues to delve deep into The Batman Universe toy box, drawing from Batman: The Animated Series and Batman 1989. Overall, as a Batman fan, I enjoy looking for Batman Easter eggs. Read Full Review

While this is the final chapter of the yearbook storyline itself it's not actually the end of it because they still have to get it back. That brings Robin back into play and it looks like it should be a right fun proper conclusion the next time around. Hopefully the present day will be the main focus as I'm now, after four issues, feeling a little burned out on the side stories and the gap filling. It's been an interesting arc with some real hit or miss stories within them but in the end it's the kind of mild risk that I'm glad they took because it brought in a lot of great talent to have some fun with and to do some creative things. This issue wasn't as fun or delightful as previous yearbook issues, but Pomeline and Heathcliff's story was a wonderful read, especially illustrated by Annie Wu. The focus on Serpents & Spells doesn't hook the reader enough to tie the issue together. Dialynas and Petersen's stories feel out-of-place. Despite this, Pomeline, Heathcliff, Maps, and Olive are a treasure. Read Full Review

I am fearful this arc is going to drive more people away than bring on and create a lukewarm atmosphere for "Second Semester". Let's face it, good though these stories are, they are fluff pieces. Now, fluff can be good every now and again, but too much too quick and you're going to crap purple. Read Full Review
