A fun romp and a nice set-up for Threshold. Read Full Review

The Comic Book Revue - Jay Mattson Jan 10, 2013

Green Lanterns: New Guardians has a second-stringer title since it began due to a lack of direction and overall cohesiveness. I understand that this Annual was intended to be a lead-in to Threshold, but why? Why can't that series stand on it's own? Why make an already struggling title break focus and lose it's momentum in the process? Last month's issue was a great step forward, but Green Lantern: New Guardians Annual #1 is like taking two steps back. Comic Vine - Tony 'G-Man' Guerrero Jan 9, 2013

This was an issue I really went back and forth with. The beginning didn't feel like a NEW GUARDIANS story at all. The mix of those elements along with setting up the new series, THRESHOLD, made the story feel like a hodgepodge of events. While I started thinking I wasn't going to enjoy this comic at all, things did start to turn around. But with the focus on the new character and "The Game," I soon found myself wondering if I could finish reading the issue. There is definite potential for THRESHOLD and the exploration of a different part of the New 52 universe. I just wish this issue didn't feel like a forced way to get me interested in it. I've always felt this was Kyle's book along with the other Lanterns. That was barely the case. It's a great introduction for THRESHOLD if you plan on picking that series up. Just don't expect too much on Kyle learning how to use the different rings. Read Full Review

    IGN - Poet Mase Jan 9, 2013

This is probably a good issue to skip, but, if you've found it in the stack of comics that you brought home, it's best if you adjust your expectations accordingly. This story only pays lip service to Kyle's current quest to command the entire emotional spectrum, and it stumbles over itself in even that modest role. For a book that costs a fiver and isn't worth three, even fans of the title would do well to show restraint this week. Read Full Review

Weekly Comic Book Review - Hugo Robberts Lariviere Jan 14, 2013

This annual has an identity crisis, trying to be both the start of a new series and a worthy addition to the New Guardians title, but it fails on both terms. The art is okay, but it has several flaws that unfortunately bring it a little bit down. Read Full Review

Den Of Geek! - Marc Buxton Jan 10, 2013

The art succeeds when it focuses on alien cityscapes, but the action is muddled, and often, the artists try to jam as much stuff on panel as possible. Giffen is usually better when he handles his own creations, so there is hope for Threshold, but this Annual was as forgettable as it was confusing. Read Full Review

Entertainment Fuse - Kat West AKA Comic Uno Jan 11, 2013

I wanted a good story with Kyle and Carol, but I get a publicity stunt. I hated that I spent five dollars on this issue. It is not worth the money and you will not a good story. Do not pick this up! Read Full Review

    Newsarama - Brian Bannen Jan 14, 2013

After finishing New Guardians Annual, the only thing I could think of was calling DC and asking for a refund. This comic is definitely not worth the price of admission, and doesn't do any good for the series that it's meant to introduce. If this is meant to get readers excited for Threshold, it does not do its job. Read Full Review

Blog Of Oa - Myron Rumsey Jan 9, 2013

I'm not one of those jaded fans who just criticizes anything, but at the same time I cannot have any sense of credibility if I gloss over books that are just plain horrible and this annual is perhaps the second worst book I've ever reviewed on this site with this issue only being ever so slightly more redeeming than Green Lantern / Plastic Man: Weapons of Mass Deception. If you haven't picked this one up do yourself a favor and pass on it because it is not worth the money. Zero lanterns. Read Full Review
