  The plot is gripping and exciting"involving a dead councilman, a Voodoo queen, and zombies. There are lots of twists and turns that keep the story interesting, and Williams leaves readers with a cliffhanger ending that will leave them begging for more. Trevor Hairsine's artwork brings this southern fried story to life in fantastic fashion, giving it a look much more like something you would find in a Vertigo comic than a DCU title.   The "National Comics" line hasn't been perfect, but "National Comics: Madame X" is a good one-shot that I think would easily translate into an ongoing series. Will any of the "National Comics" titles make the jump? Will we see more before long? To both, I can only say, let's hope so.   "National Comics: Madame X" is not the comic of the year, but it's the perfect example of a comic worth picking up if you have a few bucks more than you thought to spend for a few reasons: first, and most importantly, it's a well put-together read; second, you can approach it without any knowledge of the character or the DCnU in general (thanks, reboot!); finally, as a one-and-done, this is one of the few $3.99 comics on the shelves that is worth the price of admission. It doesn't read through in half a minute, and it doesn't make you feel obligated to pick it up next month to find out if you like it or not. Read Full Review
