Overall, this was a fun but esoteric issue. Did it need a subtitle on the cover? No, but at this point it does feel like the writing team needed a symbolic refresh. Yes, Robert Carey's art varies in quality, but there are some genuinely cool panels when the poses aren't so stiff or the lines so squiggly. I particularly enjoyed the random Scooby-Doo-like montage of the Outsiders dungeon crawling. In terms of narrative, the heavy lean on meta commentary can feel a bit much. In spite of that, Outsiders tends to warm things over with humor that still works. While the end of the story and return to the status quo felt undercooked, this new direction seems fairly mixed-positive for now. Read Full Review
Something about this issue didn't entertain me as much as the previous eight. I can't put my finger on it, but I just wasn't feeling it. I've loved the run so far, this one had me ready to be over long before the final page. I'm just going to take it as an anomaly though, maybe I was distracted or something.
This book isn't clicking for me, unfortunately. What I once thought was a series devoted to going into the forgotten corners of the DC Multiverse now comes off as pretentious.
