The previously untold story of the early years of Red Sonja continues in Birth of the She-Devil #2! Although not quite as excellent as the first issue, 'Red Sonja: Birth of the She-Devil #2' overcomes pacing flaws to continue a brutal and complicated story packed full of gorgeous visuals. Read Full Review

Of more interest is the further flashbacks to even earlier days and the conflict between Sonja and her mentor over the loss of his other pupil, Shashana. The flashbacks not only give us a brief encounter between Raka and Red Sonja, but the cult leader's current grab for power seems to move the pair into an unavoidable reunion and confrontation. As to what happened to Shashana… we'll just have to wait and see what horrors may or may not be revealed in the coming issues. For fans. Read Full Review
The series still has a great deal of potential though, so hopefully this is just a hiccup in the story that'll be resolved in later issues. Read Full Review
Is this second chapter of Birth of the She-Devil a bad comic? No, but it is a bad Red Sonja story, that would be more appropriately titled Raka " Birth Of A Chaos Mage or Ozzyus " Birth Of A Cohort. Wonderful art and a very fun, old-school style Sonja issue that contrasts big time with the main title and the Riverdale crossover. Maybe not quite as strong as #1 and Lieberman shows signs of going back to the well twice sometimes but he's done a good job of simultaneously showing the events that led to Sonja's fury at Ozzyus in the past, the onslaught of Raka and his army of demonic slaves, and Sonja and Ozzyus' own antics, first in a rough seaside tavern and then on the Vendyan Sea crossing. Now the flashbacks are out of the way, it's time for Sonja to kick zombie ass!
