The Turtles return to NYC thinking that the worst is finally behind them. Little do they know that the ultimate danger lurks within their very headquarters!
A slow burning sub plot has now become the main focus and what seemed like a distant threat is a now a terrifying reality. The status quo could be in for yet another shake up just as we were getting comfortable with the last major shake up. If one thing's for sure it's that in this brilliant series, nothing is guaranteed other than consistent quality. Another positive in a long line of positives for IDW's best ongoing series. I do hate having to wait each month for new TMNT. What I hate more is cliffhangers meaning nothing. So despite me being scared of what I might see in July I do hope IDW stick to their guns. Read Full Review
Overall then, while this issue sees a bit of a change of pace from the last couple of bright, bold, cartoony arcs, the confidence and steady-handedness of the creative team continues to steer this ship smoothly. While there have certainly been other licensed comics that have provided inventive, engaging and respectful incarnations of classic characters (Burnham and Schoenings Ghostbusters, for instance), few if any – have done it as consistently and for as long a period as IDWs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Essential reading if youre a TMNT fan, and highly recommended even if you arent. Read Full Review
TMNT has adopted a blink-and-you'll-miss-it approach to storytelling as of late, Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman hardly allowing a second to process the last arc before diving shell first into the next. While said push allows for a consistent sense of momentum, it also hinders some of the series' more heightened moments. Read Full Review
So a return to the world of the Turtles for me (Aside from actually going and paying to see the new movie Out of the Shadows)and though there wasn't a whole lot of Turtle action here, there was more than enough intriguing plot changes to keep me interested. I am definitely a fan of Splinter running the Foot Clan, it's a different twist for sure. There were a few new characters that threw me, but it does make me want to go back and read the rest of this IDW series run. On a side note, the art was pretty rad for the battle scene between Splinter and the Clan. This installment was not quite enough to elicit a cowabunga from me but I definitely will be peeking down the manhole to see what's brewing next time. Read Full Review
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #59 isn't the best issue in recent months, far from it, but it is still an engaging outing. Giving some strong development and touching moments, the creative team did more than enough to leave me eager for more, with the next instalment bound to blow the roof off. Read Full Review
Let's hope that next issue can sweep aside all the plot holes and give us good old fashion mutant-ninja melee. Read Full Review
Master Splinter!!!?
First half of this issue was a little slow but it gets good and ends with a bang. Splinter spotlight on this one.
A solid issue, but not as good as last arc mostly due to the change in art. Still, TMNT always delivers and this issue provides a great cliffhanger.
gets us caught up to speed of what has been happening with Master Splinter while the Turtles were away with Leatherhead at Burnow Island . . . . . but it takes up into one HELL of a cliffhanger!!! D:
