Rick Remender wrote a multilayered tale in this issue. While there are intense scenes with chases and close quarter fights throughout a city. This entire event is narrated from the perspective of Milton Shaw. The way each injury is described by Milton is not only poetic. But the graphic details incorporated by Remender report Milton's plight enable the reader to be submerged into this story. Storytelling at its finest expression. Read Full Review

Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez Oct 23, 2025

ESCAPE #3 doesn't just continue Milton's descent. It detonates it. This comic feels like war distilled into ink and nerve endings, drawn by a hand shaking from memory and caffeine. It's exhausting, brilliant, and unflinchingly alive. Few series dare to dig this deep into the marrow of futility. Remender and Acua just keep lighting matches in the dark, and somehow, the fire never feels wasted. Read Full Review

A war film and newsreel footage of his president declaring war inspired Milton to join the military. But by then, he had already sacrificed the life he enjoyed for the woman he loved. Before he met Ruth, Milton was the king of the skies. Now, hes a war criminal, hoping to toss his life away to achieve a military objective. Acuna delivers dark, thrilling art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of the series and how beautifully detailed the pages and panels are. Read Full Review

This issue is an EASY 10/10.

This is comicbook excellence at its zenith. You could teach an art class how to make a comic with this, just this issue alone. It has everything a good comic book must have, and has it in excess.

The writing is brilliant. The wording of the dislogue mimicking spontaneous thought if the protagonist, flowing alongside the colorful, hopeless panels... its incredible, truly.

The art... this is a masterclass in comic book art. And art in general. Everything is here. Lighting, figure work, paneling, pacing, angling, it is ALL there. This is insane, how good this is.

The narrative itself simple, but complete. Thus could be a short film. You dont even need to read the two p more

I had phantom pains while reading this comic. Which, in this case, is a good thing.

    Another perfect issue.

Great, once again, I still think the previous issue was this book's best thus far, but I'm still really into this. I feel like I've seen many other say something similar to this, but I think it's a testament to how good this is that I've never been big into war stories and I'm liking this as much as I am. It definitely helps when you have two guys like Remender & Acuña working on the book, though. In any case, I'm feeling that Milton's ethics/morals/etc. are going to be tested in the next issue, and I'm really looking forward to seeing that, particularly after how he talked about the bats of this land in the first issue.
