Cheers, mate! Simon Pure here, the roguishly handsome immortal soldier whose amusing adventures you’ve no doubt been following. Alas, I cannot in good conscience tell you much about this chapter of my sordid past. Least of all before you spy issue #15’s surprise so spectacular…well, I’d best leave it at that.

Redcoat #17 is setting us up with surprises and a coming debacle as Benedict wants to find the immortality spell and give it to Simon and Albert. Can he be trusted? I want to say no. The team is doing such a great job writing him and causing inner conflict. I need the next issue instantly! Read Full Review

    Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez

Redcoat #17 is a strong addition to the series. Despite its uneven release schedule, the story is gaining momentum and evolving into a compelling, full-fledged adventure. The moral dilemma placed on Simon—caught between Einstein and Benedict Arnold—is unexpected but works perfectly within the narrative. Combined with Bryan Hitch’s top-tier artwork, this issue delivers a high-quality reading experience and leaves you eager for what comes next. Read Full Review

Comic Book Clique - Jack Richardson

Redcoat #17 is a high-quality, character-driven entry that maintains the series' reputation for excellence, even if it feels a bit like it's idling in neutral. The strength of the "Simon/Arnold/Einstein" dynamic is enough to carry the weight of a slower plot, and Bryan Hitch’s art remains some of the best in the industry. Read Full Review

Lyles Movie Files - Jeffrey Lyles

This wasn’t the most eventful installment of the series, but the slow burn approach plus this issue’s cliffhanger strongly suggests this arc is about to heat up quickly. Read Full Review

    Fanlight Zone - Richard Coryell

    Apr 15, 2026

Redcoat #17 comes across as a filler issue with not a lot going on for it. The issue doesn’t really move the story forward except for the events of the last pages which hopefully show some promise for the next issue. As a fan of this series, I felt this issue was disappointing from the story standpoint. However, the artwork still delivers as this art team is one of the best in the business today. If you are like me and a big fan of this series, you will read this out of duty and move on to hopes for the next issue. However, if you are a more casual reader of this series, you can skip this issue because you will miss nothing at all. Read Full Review

    Plot
Albert Einstein is annoyed by Simon's gullibility regarding Benedict Arnold's promise to grant them and their families immortality.

Simon asks Albert to play along with Arnold, because even though he knows Arnold is manipulating them, there's a chance he might keep his word. If he truly wanted to kill them, he would have tried by now.

Benedict leads Simon and Albert to the hidden treasure of Paul Revere, an important precursor whose lack of ambition for power and his refusal to become a Founding Father aroused suspicion in everyone except George Washington, who offered him immortality. Revere is brutally murdered, and his diaries contain the ritual for immortality.

When Benedict obtains the diary, th more
