Nerd Initiative - Matthew Roth
Aug 19, 2026Redcoat #19 is beautiful, it is heartbreaking, and it is perhaps the most gut-punching issue of this entire series to date. The artwork is so finely detailed, and there is a level of acute care within these panels that delivers due justice to the magnitude of this issue. You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff
Aug 19, 2026The entire issue essentially takes place over the courts of a single day. It's really impressive to see how it all comes together. The color work really makes it immersive. From dawn to dusk. Everything that's going on. There's a fire. There's a journey out into the street in the middle of morning on a perfectly ordinary day in 1892. On one level, the patient could almost feel rushed given all that happens in the course of a single day. Johns and company give everything just enough space and just enough place to give the proper respect to certain dramatic moments over the course of the issue. Read Full Review

Geoff Johns delivers a story that starts with hope, builds genuine warmth around Simon’s family and community, and then rips it all away with a brutal ending that lands hard. The art team makes every emotional turn feel clear and impactful, giving the issue a strong sense of place, mood, and urgency. It may not be the most action-heavy chapter, but the drama, heartbreak, and final reveal make it one of the most memorable installments so far. This issue leaves Simon in a devastating place and makes the wait for the next issue feel even harder. Read Full Review

Plot WITH SPOILERS
Simon is devastated after Margaret takes their children, May and Albert, to her aunt's house. She's disappointed by the secret of immortality Simon kept from her all this time, but something changes her mind, and they return home. This gives Simon the courage to put on his red coat again and go with Albert Einstein to the clue Benedict Arnold gave them before being kidnapped.
On the way to the place Arnold told him to go, an Old Estate house, Simon greets all his friends and the head tailor. Albert and Simon arrive at the courthouse, only to hear an explosion. It's the tailor shop where he worked. Simon runs home, seeing a trail of death in his wake, and discovers Margaret, May, and Albert murdered... Benedic more+ Like • Comment -

Total heartbreak.Simon is going to tear Benadict a new one.The end of this book made me angry/sad for Mr.Pure.
