Dec 03, 2025Johns and company do a really good job of moving the serial forward in a way that is both engaging as an action series and provocative as for drama. Johns work developing. The overall field of the series has been well structured throughout the story thus far. It's been a great deal of fun. The fusion between traditional super-powered action and struggled between animals has a very distinctive field that isn't quite being hit by anything else on the comic book rack today. Plot Rook, Dire Wolf, and Matterhorn try to stop Stag, the the Deer Warden, who wants to behead Bloodhound because Bloodhound murdered his wife. All of this takes place inside the World Engine, which Rook wants to repair, but only with Bloodhound's help, if he can restore his sanity. However, none of the three manage to defeat or even land a blow on Stag. Suddenly, an avalanche of spiders arrives, trapping them all and causing them to hallucinate painful memories of their past. Rook comes to his senses and sees the the Spider Warden. His suit is enormous, with robotic limbs. Another good issue. There's some good action here and a further introduction to a new warden. The aracnid warden is an interesting character as he, like Bloodhound has been subjugated by his charges. The whole look and feel of the undercity was pretty cool and the webs being a telepathy device was a good idea. I can't believe this is only issue nine. So much has happened.
