While there are actually two more issues left of Amazing Spider-Man (#699.1 and #700), things are looking to be quickly heading towards an epic conclusion, as a new era of Spider-Man begins with Superior Spider-Man. It's still up in the air who is actually in the costume by then, but I'm willing to bet it's going to be something that many people will not see coming, knowing Dan's writing the way I do. Dan Slot continues to pack in the excitement and suspense while giving us some of the answers we've been looking for. You'll get sucked into the story and will almost forget that the series is ending in just one more issue. There's a lot riding on the events here and the feeling of absolutely not knowing how Slott will end this story is great. The Amazing Spider-Man is destined to go out with a bag, as “Dying Wish”continues to be an exceptional storyline. Given that this entire issue takes place inside a prison cell, the fact that it still manages to be funny, compelling, engaging, and worrying all in one go is a real treat. Slott is pulling out all the stops for this final storyline before Superior Spider-Man launches, giving us one last show before everything changes, and now is a brilliant time to be reading this series, as always. A truly phenomenal issue and I'm really looking forward to the 700th issue now. Although this issue wasn't perfect, and more serious than most Spider-Man stories, it was still very good, and very gripping which is needed in a build up to a big story. I would highly recommend this issue to anyone, as it gives a lot of insight to what might happen in the 700th issue, and with something big about to happen to Peter you don't want to miss it. I think the main draw of this series is the possibility that Spider-Man might lose his good-guy credibility with the people of New York. It's terrible to think what might happen to Spider-Man if it isn't Peter Parker under the mask, especially if the person under the mask is a super villain. Read Full Review

When Dan Slott embarks on a little three-issue arc, which he has been doing consistently over the last year, I have always felt that the story ends up slumping a little during the second installment. That theory falls apart with this series wrapping up arc. For as shocking as #698 was, #699 was a clinic on character development and a character driven storyline. Slott showed his hand on how he was been building to this moment for well over a year and it doesn't disappoint. But I wouldn't get comfortable yet, issue 700 is sure to be one hell of an issue as Dan wraps up Amazing Spider-Man while laying more ground work for Superior Spider-Man debuting next month. Slott does it again! The last issue of Spidey was genius, we got a full issue of Otto as Peter, now we got to see Peter as Otto and how he dealt with the situation. The thing I love most is that there's a time limit now, Peter doesn't have long to try to get his body back, and that's the interesting thing. The fact he had to rely on villains to break him out shows how bad things have gotten for Peter, hell, even Paste Pot Pete was there! Also, I loved that Slott mentioned their meeting, which took place in the excellent Human Torch/Amazing Spider-Man mini-series he wrote. Another interesting thing about this issue, the whole Connors/Lizard thing... I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Superior Spider-Man has claws for scaling walls... maybe there's a relation there with The Lizard controlled Connors? Once again Slott gave us an issue where he answered questions and made us ask even more, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.It was as good as the last issue, but it was damn close. Read Full Review

This book had a lot to live up to after the previous issue, and I am very happy with how it turned out. We have #699.1 followed by #700 to come, and I am very excited at just how this is all poised. There is no doubt in my mind that #700 will be huge, and I really cant wait to pick it up. Whatever the outcome of issue #700, I'm of the opinion that Amazing Spider-Man is the most exciting it has been since the start of the Big Time era. I fully expect things to go back to normal for Peter down the road (don't they always?), whether that be in 6 months or 6 years. Similarly appropriate is how this story incorporates elements as far back into as issue #600, reminding readers how Peter's experiences influence one another. As well as the main story, a few unresolved subplots from Slott's run appear to be converging on issue #700, which suggests a knock-down, drag-out finale that'll lead us into the new era with a clean slate. On the lighter side, artist Humberto Ramos once again nails the art across the board. There are those who love Ramos and those who hate. The haters won’t be won over here. The work is still bigger than life and very much comic book art. Ramos loves to play with dimension and body scale but he also brings action like nobody else. One of the more somber scenes of the book was seeing the Lizard. While he claimed to be healed Connors decided to stay in prison to protect the people he loves. Another incredible tense scene was waiting for the villains to break Spidey out of prison. Slott has some great moments in this issue and the wait for Spider-Man 700 is almost unbearable. It is only a few weeks till The Amazing Spider-Man 700 and The Superior Spider-Man. Spidey fans need not wait much longer. Read Full Review

There is still one more issue left for Dan Slott to convince me to pick up the relaunch series, Superior Spider-Man. Unfortunately issue #700 will have to be something special because Amazing Spider-Man #699 just left a bad taste in my mouth for the new direction of the franchise.
