Sometimes, a story is just so dang good that you can overlook some minor problems. CATACLYSM #0.1 is a very emotional story which is a great bridge between two story lines. It's pretty rare that an issue can evoke real emotion from a reader, and this issue nails that. Fialkov has a lot of love for these characters and this universe and it really shows here. While the art switch became a tad distracting, even though all three artists were great on their own, this story was just so appealing to me as an Ultimate fan. If this issue doesn't get you excited for CATACLYSM, check your pulse because you're probably dead. Read Full Review

Analog Addiction - Jideobi Odunze Oct 31, 2013

As somewhat of a prologue into Cataclysm, this issue did what it set forth to do. Earth and the Ultimates are now aware of what's heading their way, they know the risk, what's a stake, and now the first pain of loss. That's only a small fraction of what's to come and considering the state of the Ultimate Universe up to this point, expect nothing short of heroes at their best and nothing held back. Three artists collaborate on this issue - Mico Suayan, Mirco Pierfederici, and Leonard Kirk. But impressively, it's actually very hard to detect when the book shifts from one to the next. Suayan's extreme musculature does stand out at times, but these three seemingly disparate pencillers do a great job of giving the book a cohesive feel that fits in well with Hunger;'s aesthetic and the current tone of the Ultimate Universe. Weekly Comic Book Review - Hugo Robberts Lariviere Nov 4, 2013

Showing a surprisingly apt comparison between two universe along with presenting its basic conflict really well, Joshua Hale Fialkov manages to open this event up rather nicely. With Pierfederici, Suayan, Kirk and Woodard being pretty good as well, this makes for a satisfying prologue to what could be something special. Recommended. Read Full Review

Imagination Centre - John McCubbin Nov 3, 2013

Although this wasn't a necessary prequel, it would still be a fantastic issue, having some brilliant emotion, and overall it sets up the main event perfectly. It would also have some amazing interactions, and would see the return of Ultimate Comics favourite Vision. Due to all this I'd highly recommend giving this issue a shot, but if your strapped for cash and want to get the main event it's not essential to get this. Read Full Review

Despite the setting and supporting cast gathered from the entirety of the Ultimate Universe, the story in "Cataclysm" #0.1 is personal and focused, pitching Galactus against Ultimate Vision in a battle for the fate of everything. I'm not the most dedicated reader of the Ultimate line, having been lured over to "Hunger" via the goings-on in "Age of Ultron" and the heavy hints dropped by Marvel editors and creator about the significance of Galactus' visit to the Ultimate Universe. Content with the conclusion of "Hunger," I was ready to let go of the Ultimate Universe once more, but the similarity between Ultimate Sam Wilson (as seen in the preview for this issue) and the Falcon briefly glimpsed in the "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" trailer was enough for me to peek through this issue. From there the artwork was enough to hook me into buying it. Fialkov's story is enough to keep me interested in the story ahead as it unfolds. Read Full Review

If you're a fan of the Ultimate Universe then this will be a solid read with some nice character moments with the Vision. If you're going to just jump on board for what may be the last Ultimate Universe mini-series, then you don't need to read this issue as not much changes from the end of Hunger, to the end of this issue. This is an interesting and somewhat uncomfortable look at the Ultimate world which begs the question of whether or not it is worth saving. I was there at the beginning with Bendis and Bagley, and I'll be there for the end, terrible or not. Stay tuned. Read Full Review

If this is to be the death knell for the Ultimate Universe, Marvel are going to make sure they get the last possibly penny they can from the fans by printing as many ties ins to Cataclysm as they can. Not a bad book but definitely one for Ultimate fans. Read Full Review

Is this the lead in to the end of the Ultimate Universe? I'm pretty sure it's coming to a close aside from characters moving into the 616. Was this a needed issue? I would argue against that. Read Full Review
