Dammit!! When I wrote the introduction to this post, I was like 86.8756% certain I'd be dropping this series after closing this comic book up. Instead I'm almost positive I'll be forced to pick up at least another issue, as I REALLY want to see the Crazy Bruce/Hulk confrontation. Yeah sure, I have a pretty good idea of how the storyline will(probably) eventually end(look above at “The Bad” section!), but I still want to see Crazy Bruce and Hulk get in each other's faces. *sigh* Well, I guess I'll probably drop the Ultimates and keep this series... The biggest strength of Aaron and Silvestri's Hulk is undoubtedly the tight focus on the character that the art and writing afford. It's a welcome change from the last few years, where multiple spin-offs of the character dominated his world. It might not be perfect, but it is interesting, and most importantly, it doesn't feel like a homage to earlier work. Enjoying this series very much but apparently next issue is not illustrated by Marc Silvestri. I hope hes just taking a break and will be back in the near future. If theres one thing I hate about the comic book industry is artists leaving half way through a story arc. At least commit to wrapping up the arc. At least his interpretation of Hulk is solid. The juxtaposition of the man vs. monster angle remains strong. The character retains his previous level of relative intelligence, allowing him to successfully narrate the series without it descending into farce. Hulk is the right blend between savage and hero. But will that be enough to carry the series for any real length of time? Read Full Review

For all the misgivings I have about where Aaron's Incredible Hulk is going, I'm not going to get all worked up into a nerd-rage about it - at least not right now with the holiday spirit and all. Here's the bottom line with this and most any run of comics - if it turns out good, hot damn, great. If it turns out crap, then it will eventually end and fade into obscurity as one of those chapters in the character's history we don't talk about. Every iconic character has some of them. Sure, it's annoying as all get-out in the short term when one of your favorite characters is going through a suck phase, or when you think it's a suck phase but everyone else seems to drool over it, but patience is a virtue. Hulk is one of my favorite characters and Aaron is on the short list of my favorite writers but this book just isn't doing it for me. Obviously there is still room for the story to take shape but this book is simply dragging on too much at this point. Loeb's book's flaw was the mystery being teased again and again, but this book's flaw, so far, is that its taking issue after issue just to get Banner and Hulk to meet up with little reason or argument as to why they should or should not. This is a frustrating book unless you like pure action. Read Full Review
