WORLD’S MOST WANTED: THE CONCLUSION! Everything ends. Rated A …$2.99
Finally, I'd like to give Fraction and Larroca some extra credit for the book's consistent shipping schedule. That might seem like an odd thing to praise the book for, but readers are always quick to complain about late comics, so why not give special mention to a title that has maintained such a solid release pattern for the last year? This story started in Invincible Iron Man #8, which was released on December 17th 2009--and this final issue will be released tomorrow, the 20th October. That means that Invincible Iron Man has provided a high-quality, 12-issue storyline with a consistent art team in the space of just 10 months--and that's definitely something to be proud of. As always, fantastic writing by Matt Fraction, and equally amazing art from Salvador Larroca. We can only hope this team stays on this book for a good long time - Iron Man has rarely been better. Read Full Review
Still, I've gotten used to those foibles by now. The one nagging flaw of this finale issue is that it doesn't provide enough closure. There's the aforementioned problem with Maria. Also troubling is the resolution of HAMMER agent Walsh's betrayal. I hope Fraction has plans for this character during the course of "Tony Stark Disassembled", because to write him out of the series at this point seems wasteful. Coming out of issue #18, I'm sure many readers wondered how Fraction could properly resolve all of his open plot threads. Well, the truth is that they aren't all resolved, and that "World's Most Wanted" doesn't end so much as lead right into the next arc. Make no mistake - this is a powerful finish to an engrossing, yearlong saga. It just doesn't slap the big exclamation point at the end of "World's Most Wanted" I might have expected. Read Full Review
Overall, it's satisfying. That said, it's the Michael Bay movie of comic books: epic, explosive, pretty, with some awesome moments, but not without narrative corner-cutting. Read Full Review
I am curious how quickly the fallout from this issue will turn radioactive. The Marvel Universe seems to be fluid of late, with disassembling leading to invasions, which in turn lead to a dark reign, but it seems as though more change is on the way. The path Fraction set for the change to come is impressive and enjoyable. As the character of Iron Man begins to heat up in the public consciousness (truly, aren't we due for a teaser trailer for "Iron Man 2" by now?) this title is heating up for Marvel readers. Invincible Iron Man #19 was an average ending to this year long arc. For sure World's Most Wanted will be an arc that appeals more to new Iron Man fans. Fraction writing in this arc and his whole run in this title has been for new readers not long time Iron Man fans. So for long time Iron Man fans this will probably be more of the same for the character which may bore them. So I can only recommend getting this issue and arc to new Iron Man fans. Read Full Review
